AINE, A PARIS to backplate, the dial cast as a rose window incorporating Roman numerals above tracery arch flanked by figural applied cluster column uprights with crotcheted spire finials fronting a stepped gable pediment surmounted by a bellfry flanked by further spires, 52cm high, with glass dome and with marquetry stand. A good early 20th century brass sextant by Heath & Co, "Bell" pattern mark III, with silver scale and vernier, magnifier, two sets of colour filters, eyepiece filters, telescopes, pair of binoculars and a wooden handled screwdriver, signed Heath & Co Ltd, Crayford, London, made for W Gerrard, 40 South Castle Street, Liverpool, in fitted mahogany case, the inside of the lid applied with a National Physical Laboratory Certificate of Examination, ivorine label to side marked "Bell Pattern Mark III Sextant", complete with original leather outer case, marked in gilt for Heath & Co Ltd (Illustrated). An identical instrument can be seen in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich (NAV 1166).
