Garden Seats: A pair of rare Coalbrookdale Oak and Ivy pattern cast iron seats2nd half 19th centuryfully stamped C B Dale and diamond registration stamp, number and pattern number 30153cm.; 60ins wideThe original design, number 119253, was registered and patented by the CoalbrookdaleIron Foundry at the Public Record office on 8th March 1859, and is seat number 30 in their1875 Castings Catalogue. It was designed by the sculptor John Bell, one of Coalbrookdale’sprincipal designers, whose famous Deerhound Centre Table was exhibited at the 1855Universal Exhibition, and which is now in the Iron Bridge Gorge Museum, Shropshire. Crichton seems to be spelt with a 'g' in both places on this clock, but in all other information about this firm, it is spelt with a 'c'.The firm retailed the animal decanters made by Alexander Crichton and it could be assumed that there was a family connection.
