Partia when she was sunk on 13 June 1918 by UC-49, after being torpedoed in the Bristol Channel, with the loss of 16 lives. Alfred Walter Pargetor, a Labourer from Tysoe, Warwickshire, attested for the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 13 June 1916 for service during the Great War. Advanced Acting Leading Seaman on 5 November 1916, he served in H.M.S. President, in Defensively Armed Merchant Ships (D.A.M.S.) and was shore demobilised on 30 July 1919. James Edward Thornton, a Grocery Branch Manager from Halifax, Yorkshire, was born on 17 December 1899. He attested into the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 21 June 1917 for service during the Great War and served in H.M.S. Queen and H.M.S. Caesar. He was shore demobilised on 14 July 1919. Sold with named hallmarked silver Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes medal.

Mounts have lost their finish. A few chips/losses to case veneer in places, and some old paint spatter. Movement plates with a few empty holes but movement seems to fit. Dial looks OK, hands not a great colour. Possibly associated to case - retaining brackets adapted in shape. Hood door lacks pins/screws to lower hinge. Not currently wanting to tick for any duration, but noisey strike sounds correctly when hands are advanced at the hour. Sold 'as seen'.
