Eugene Farcot - French "cherub on a swing" mantel clock c1870, with an alabaster case and drum movement supported by twin scroll supports on a stepped plinth raised on alabaster bun feet, enamel dial with Roman numerals, minute track and steel moon hands, 8-day count wheel striking movement, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, mounted on an oval padded plinth with an ebonised base and conforming glass dome. Eugene Farcot was a highly respected 19th century Parisian clockmaker who in 1862 invented and patented the ingenious double action escapement with half-moon pallets and twin escape wheels used on this clock. Joseph Warren of Ixworth - a William IV iron two-train turret clock, having signed small brass Roman dial, dia. 5", within iron framed eight-day striking movement, w.20", together with weights, rod pendulum, crank handle; and sold with two pressed convex metal clock faces, each gilded with Roman numerals on a black background, dia.38"Note: Joseph Warren settled in Ixworth in 1818 and is listed in White's Suffolk Directories between 1823-1855 as a clock and watchmaker based on the High Street. He was also a noted collector and antiquary, who helped found the Bury and West Suffolk Archaeological Institute in 1848, and at one point had possession of both the Anglo-Saxon 'Tostock buckle' and 'Ixworth cross' (both now in the Ashmolean Museum). By the 1874 edition of White's he is listed as a 'Dealer in Antiques', with Nathenial Randell having taken over the watch and clock business. Dial diameter 5”.No bell.

A Queen Anne burr walnut and feather banded cased longcase clock, the twelve inch brass dial, with silvered chapter ring, signed, Henry Mafsy, London, the eight day movement striking on a bell, 212cm high. There is a Henry Massy recorded, as the son of Nicholas, working at Charles Street near St. James's Square in London, from circa 1690 to 1712Overall condition is basically complete but scruffy. The wood of the case is dry, with some areas of lifting veneers and some losses to mouldings and veneers, mostly to corners and edges. Dial looks complete but slightly rubbed. Movement is corroded, but free when pushed, so the bell will ring and hands turn. Pendulum is missing the top, so cannot be suspended. Has two weights, winder and a key for the case which works ok. Back boards have been adapted and drilled many times. Collected from a house move, so unrestored and dirty from use.
