Smith, Bath' 45cm high Provenance: Private Collection, Berkshire Please note: This clock case is ebonised rather than Mahogany, catalogue description has since been updated, and is not as originally catalogued. N.B. Please see amendments/clarification of the description within the condition report below: Condition Report: Clock case is ebonised rather than mahogany. The movement is in working condition (a gentle clean and overhaul is advised) and appears essentially original except for the escapement which has been converted from verge to anchor. The dial plate is original to the movement however has been re-painted and the signature for 'W. J. SMITH, BATH' has been added. The case also appears to be original to the movement and dial and is in sound original condition with faults mostly limited to minor shrinkage, wear and other slight age related blemishes. The case of the case has been drilled with three holes (towards the rear) probably to help sound of the bell to be heard. The sides have two small holes above the apex of each aperture - the purpose of these is unknown but is not considered indicative of any alteration.Clock has a crank winder and case key. A FRENCH GILT METAL FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK LATE 19TH CENTURY With eight-day bell striking movement, signed C.J. & Co, with white enamel Roman numeral dial centrally signed for Hry Marc, within a lapis lazuli mask, the case surmounted by two bacchanalian putti and with flanking scrolls terminating in feet and with further toupee feet 46cm high Condition Report: Overall will require attention, the elements of the case are loose and detached, the movement dirty, the case gilt worn and verdigris overall, dirt to the deeper recesses, the minute hand hangs limply at the half hour mark and swings when touched - movement untested but likely requiring attention before use in a domestic setting, no keys or pendulum present.
