The Linz Pattern was in use for a short period of time during 19th century, with most decks being produced between 1840s-1880, making this deck an unusually early example. An impressive Victorian hallmarked silver four-piece tea set in the Gothic style, comprising coffee pot, height 34cm, teapot, height 26cm, sugar bowl, height 16.5cm and milk jug, height 15cm, height each piece of tall hexagonal shape, with urn finials, bell-shaped lids, straight and angular handles, Rococo-style spouts adorned with acanthus leaves, each panel decorated with floral scrolls and columns, the front panel with engraved crest of upright arm holding a cross, the lower panels with possible folklore scenes, to include a boy with bow and arrow, a mythical bird, a fox in woodland, on a hexagonal base, the sugar bowl and milk jug with gilt interiors, London 1844, with sponsor's mark 'J.A' over 'J.A', also marked 'J. Mayer Goldsmith, 68 Lord Street, Liverpool', combined approx 86.5ozt (4).Footnote: The teapot and coffee pot both have two ivory spacers to each handle. The ivory has been declared, with reference numbers 2A17YC5N for the coffee pot and JQ1NRL82 for the teapot. CONDITION REPORT: This has been looked after by the generations of the vendor's family. There are no obvious repairs or damage. The handle on the teapot is a little loose. There may be some slight indents, dimples and surface scratches, but the decoration hides most of these.

Lot 98

A collection of Dresden and similar cabinet cups and saucers, including a Helena Wolfsohn Augustus Rex trio, two cups and saucers, a shaped saucer and bell (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The lid to the chocolate cup has been extensively restored. The cup with the snake handle and three feet has a hairline crack and is discoloured to the interior. All other pieces in this lot are in good order and are free from any chips, damage, repairs or restoration. All pieces do have some rubbing to the gilding as one would expect.

Lot 882

A late Georgian mahogany longcase clock, with fretwork pediment arched painted dial and two train striking movement with long trunk door flanked by quarter round columns. Height including finial 230 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Whilst we have not had the movement running as we do not have a pendulum, when weight is applied to the going train it does operate. When the hands are manually advanced the strike mechanism also operates when weight is applied. The movement is however very dirty. The bell is currently detached. The face condition should be visible from our images. We have all three metal finials. The left one is detached. The fretwork has some fractures but is all present. The hood is in generally good order and the glass original and not cracked. The door is not warped. The trunk door is also not warped and closes as it should. We have the key and lock. The sides of the case are in generally good condition. The base has some veneer losses to the extremities and around the legs and the bottom base narrow applied moulding is missing in places.

Anthony Baynes (British, 1921-2003), 'Greek Shepherd's Shelter', titled and inscribed and dated 'c1955' on Abbott and Holder gallery labels verso, watercolour and gouache, 22 x 24.5cm, frame 43 x 43cm, with another signed example depicting 4 landscapes in a window-like frame, signed lower right side in pencil, watercolour and gouache, 30 x 24cm, frame 49 x 41.5cm (2)Antony Baynes. Thence by descent.Anthony Baynes studied art at the Slade School of Art. Baynes studied under Professor Randolphe Schwabe, along with fellow students Kyffin Williams and Bernard Dunstan. In 1946 his work 'The Betrayal' won the Mary Richgitz Prize. This painting is in the UCL Art Museum.After the war he taught art at the Badminton School and in 1949 went to Greece. Then in the 1950s he lived in Crete and held an exhbition in Athens in 1955 and later in London in 1958.He was an accomplished artist in both watercolour and oil and a designer of theatrical sets (eg for Sadler's Wells in the 1940s) and decorated furniture. Baynes was a noted dust jacket designer too from the 1950s to the 1970s, working for publishers John Murray, Capes and Eyre and Spottiswoode. He painted murals at the Portsmouth Guildhall and the London Stock Exchange.Anthony Baynes was the cousin of the well known artist Keith Baynes (1877-1977), who studied at the Slade School of Art from1912 to 1914. After the war Keith Baynes became a member of the circle of Roger Fry. He exhibited with the NEAC and with the London Group from 1919 and was friends with Bloomsbury Group members Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. He Exhibited at Agnew's amongst other galleries.Ok.

An early Victorian, Gothic style, mahogany bracket clock, by 'Moss, Sheffield', the top with a crocketed gallery above an arched crocketed front overa 7.5" painted circular dial, signed and with Roman numerals and minute markers, raised on gadrooned feet, with an 8-day movement, striking on a bell, some damage, without key and rear door locked, with a pendulum, 46cm high (2)Generally ok and a nice colour with nice figuring, but some damage, including lacking 1.5cm section of veneer on the back left corner of the left side plinth and whole of rear section, wall side, (about 2cm x 2cm). Without key and rear door locked and so cannot inspect movement. Chips, dents and scratches consistent with age and use.

Above average colour and figuring, but lacking section beneath hood and on back edge lacking 5cm section. Base of hood lacking 7 cm back section of bead. Minor restoration, including old mahogany inlay on base. Dial- small chip top right, chapter ring- silvering totally worn.

The model, byJohn Bell (1811-1895), was after a marble original by Johann Heinrich Dannecker(1758-1841), a German sculptor who’s life-size sculpture was a popular touristattraction in Frankfurt. Smaller statuettes, like this one, were available astourist souvenirs.Condition Report:Terracotta: Loss to the central section of the lion’s tail. Small chips to the base not int he casting. Parian/biscuit: Loss of to to the lower foot.

French brass gorge cased carriage clock, by Drocourt, number 11726, engraved case with bevelled glass, rectangular enamelled dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary alarm dial, platform escapement, repeating movement striking on a bell, the back plate with two character Chinese signature, 15cm, in a velvet covered travelling case with associated key.Condition report:The movement winds and the scapement workd but when powered the strike runs continuously so can not confirm the strike and repeat function, the dial and hands are in good condition, seconds hand functions, engraving on the case is slightly worn and glass panels are in good condition, case covering is quite worn and loose in places.A further image of the back with the door open has been uploaded to the lot page on our website for you to view.
