Early 19th Century English School-Oil on canvas-Coastal scene with passengers being rescued from a shipwreck, unsigned, 44.5cm x 60cm. An early 19th century late Georgian parquetry inlaid and mahogany banded oak cased thirty hour longcase clock, the painted arched dial inscribed 'W.Hullah, Wilsill', the movement striking on a bell, with single weight, and pendulum, height approx 226cm With this lot comes some family history which reads as follows 'Longcase clock made by Richard Snow, Pateley Bridge, clock maker 1822-1841, made circa 1829 for William Hullah of Wilsill 1804-1870. Bronze of Clotho with thread, possibly Greco-Roman. Clotho, one of the three Fates, is depicted as a nude holding a ribbon or `thread` in one hand. Her arms are spread as if to measure the ribbon. Clotho was the fate who determined the length of a life by measureing a thread. Mounted on green marble base. Later dark patina. One arm has been reattached. Overall: 11"h x 3.25"w x 2.5"d.
