John Blaylock is recorded in Baillie G H ‘Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World’ as working in Longtown circa 1791.

Ollive and Reader are recorded in Baillie G H ‘Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World’ as working from Cranbrook in the early 19th century.

A thirty hour posted longcase clock movement and dial circa 1740 the outside countwheel bell striking movement with rectangular section posts and anchor escapement the 10in square brass dial with ho-ho bird and burnished foliate scroll engraved matted centre within an applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with fleur de lys half hour markers and signed ‘Nicholas Blondel A Guernsey’ to lower edge the angles with applied foliate scroll and shell cast spandrels no pendulum or weight. Nicholas Blondel is recorded in Loomes Brian ‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the World volume 2’ as working cica 1740 Blondel is known to have numbered the majority of his clocks however this example appears to be unnumbered.

Rant London’ to lower edge the case with moulded cornice and integral pilasters to hood above long trunk door gilt decorated with figural Chinoiseries around a glazed lenticle on plinth base 224cm high.. Jonathan Rant is recorded in Baillie G H ‘Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World’ as working 1687-1725.

William Webster a fine figured mahogany eight day longcase clock with deadbeat escapement circa 1760 the five pillar rack and bell striking movement with deadbeat escapement and 12in brass break-arch dial with slender subsidiary seconds ring calendar aperture and signed ‘William Webster Exchange Alley London’ to the matted centre within silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with Arabic five minutes and unusual mask and scroll cast spandrels to angles the arch with silvered strike/silent ring flanked by dolphin cast mounts the case with pagoda pediment and brass flambeau finials above brass stop fluted pilasters to hood with solid flame figured break-arch door to trunk on raised panel fronted plinth base 243cm high.. William Webster senior was journeyman to Thomas Tompion who after his master’s death worked from Exchange Alley until he died in 1737 the business was continued by his son also called William until his death in 1776.

A finely engineered 6in scale model of a Foden ‘C’ type steam waggon built by Eric Lindsay being a scaled up version of the well known Terry Morris 3in design and incorporating some 80 castings from the patterns made by Chris Lord. This is believed to be only the sixth model made from these patterns. The engine is a full compound twin cylinder unit operating at 220psi and with fully operational simpling valve and exhaust bypass valve. The wagon has three road speeds chain drive hydraulic front brakes and pneumatic tyres. The cab and dropside body are coachpainted in crimson with the chassis and wheels in red and with black details. The boiler manufactured by Bell Boilers of Gloucester is tested to 330 psi with working pressure of 220 psi and carries a test certificate valid until 2008. It is fed by both water pump and injector. The wagon weighs some 1200kg and is 3800mm long. It is registered for use on the road (reg no. WV 02 APU) and is capable of speeds in excess of 25mph. Boiler test certificate available for inspection with the auctioneers. This lot attracts a lower Buyer’s Premium rate.
