Chinese Porcelain Tek Sing Shipwreck Dish19th century AD. A pale blue-glazed bowl with bell-shaped profile, deep basal ring; official code label and identification sticker to base. 336 grams, 16cm (6 1/4"). Private collection, North London, UK. The Tek Sing (True Star) wreck is one of the famous recovery stories of the 20th century. Sailing from the port of Xiamen (then known as Amoy) in February 1822 the vessel Tek Sing was bound for Jakarta, Indonesia laden with porcelain goods and 1600 Chinese emigrants. The captain decided to pass through the Gaspar Strait, between the Bangka-Belitung Islands, and ran aground on a reef. The vessel sank in about 100 feet of water. The next morning, February 7, an English East Indiaman captained by James Pearl, passing through the same waters, encountered debris and some survivors and managed to rescue about 190 of the latter. Fine condition.

A ceramic bell krater with pedestal base, bell-shaped body and broad everted rim; the rim with red ring to the interior and a band of vineleaves to the underside of the exterior; the body with two figural scenes separated by painted palmettes beneath the handles: Side A depicting a scene of revelry associated with the cult of Dionysus, a nude bearded male plucking at the robe of a female, with a second female behind him preparing to disrobe, a second nude bearded male to the right carrying a staff advancing towards a robed female with a distaff (?); Side B depicting a winged Nike addressing a draped male facing her, a second male behind her. 3.9 kg, 32.8cm (13"). From the Astarte Gallery, Britannia Hotel, Mayfair, London, UK. Fine condition.

A blackware vessel with tiered foot, ribbed stem, bell-shaped body with two scrolled strap handles, gussetted rim; the body enlivened with ochre and white slip showing on both sides, the head of a lady of fashion, her hair dressed in a kekryphalos and radiate stephane, wearing drop earrings, her face flanked on either side by stylised Ionic columns, objects in the field. 65 grams, 92mm (3 3/4").
