A late 19th century French gilt metal and porcelain panel mantle clock, retailed by Manoah Rhodes, Bradford, the enameled dial with floral centre, the case with Love birds and a nest surmount, caryatid and floral scroll supports, with six blue porcelain panels, the central one with a lady playing a tambourine, the movement stamped Manoah Rhodes, Bradford, striking on a bell, 48 x 32cm, pendulum.Founded by Manoah Rhodes in Bradford in 1836. Maker of gold and silver watches, jewellery and silver plate. The business grew into one of the largest jewellers in the north of England. Rhodes died in March 1881 and in 1888 the firm became Manoah Rhodes & Sons Ltd.

The dial making partnership of Walker & Hughes in Birmingham lasted from 1812-1835.

Bell (Sir Charles) The Anatomy of the Brain, first edition,12 stipple-engraved and aquatint plates by T.Medland & others after Bell, some printed in colours, all but one finished by hand, tissue guards, contemporary ink inscription of L.S.Rees to head of title, text a little browned, some light marginal soiling and staining to plates, later half maroon calf, spine gilt, a little rubbed and stained, joints split, spine ends worn, preserved in modern cloth slip-case, [Wellcome II, p.315], 4to, 1802.⁂ Important treatise on the brain illustrated with magnificent engravings. Bell studied the brain and the nervous system throughout his life and discovered the two distinct types of nerves, sensory and motor.
