He was admitted to the Clockmakers' Company as a Free Brother in 1682. He took on several apprentices between 1682 and 1718, but despite his skill as a good clockmaker he was declared bankrupt in 1706, and from that time on he suffered misfortune, until his death in 1718. He worked near Royal Exchange in London and was a great repute making a number of well made clocks in superb cases, bracket and grande sonnerie examples, and for which he was particularly noted from his longcase clocks. His work is illustrated and described in all the major horological reference books and there are examples of his clocks in the British Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art. Four of his longcase clocks were in the Wetherfield Collection including three walnut marquetry and one which is also illustrated in Cescinsky and Webster's "English Domestic Clocks" in a black lacquered case.
