Sydney Charles Seymour Lucas(1878-1954)Portrait pair of Great War soldiers Major James Leadbitter Knott DSO, and Captain Henry Basil Knott (1891-1915), each in military uniform,signed, dated, and inscribed, painted posthumously in 1918 and 1919 respectively,oil on canvas, each 90 x 70cms, uniformly framed.Following the deaths of the Knott brothers in the First World War, their father, Sir James Knott, donated the bell tower at St George’s Memorial Church in Ypres, Belgium in their honour. The Knott brothers were also memorialised closer to home; in Fenham, Newcastle, at St James and St Basil’s Church. The tenor bell inside the church bares the inscription ‘We ring in memory of James and Basil Knott, God knows’.

Sir Laurence Whistler CBE (1912-2000)an early rare glass decanter and stopper and six glasses, dated 1938, made as a wedding present for Eve & Christopher Hassall from Jill & Laurence Whistler, smoked grey glass, the decanter diamond point engraved with columns of stylised bell flowers, an oval cartouche inscribed Eve and Christopher Hassall for December the 28th 1938 from Jill and Laurence Whistler, the stopper with radiating star and central H, the six footed glasses each with a different classical border to the top rim and foliate scrolling monogram,23.5cm. high (decanter and stopper)8cm. high (glasses), (8) ProvenanceThe son of the illustrator John Hassall, and brother of Joan Hassall, Christopher Hassall was a recognised actor, dramatist and poet. He formed a successful musical partnership with Ivor Novello whom he originally worked with in a touring company. This early decanter set was made for the wedding of Eve & Christopher in 1938 when Laurence was only twenty six years old.

A pair of Bohemian cased ruby and white overlay glass vases, circa 1880, each decorated with floral bands and gilt highlighted, 28cm high, (at fault), with Czech or Italian ruby glass baluster goblet, the bell shaped bowl florally decorated above a reeded knop, 21cm high, and two gilt overlaid glass cabinet cups and saucers (7) CONDITION REPORT:One vase shows extensive repairs to the neck and rim and rubbing to the gilt highlights. The other shows rubbing to the gilt highlights throughout. The goblet shows small blowing faults and surface wear. The cabinet cups and saucers show extensive rubbing to the gilt of the handles.
