DULEEP SINGH & THE ANNEXATION OF THE PUNJAB - The Annexation of the Punjab and the Maharajah Duleep Singh, by Major Evans Bell, 1882, First Edition, 108pp, original red embossed cloth with gilt titles to front and spine. Major Bell was a professional agitator and was appointed by Duleep Singh to write his biography. The book was met with much criticism especially as Bell stated that Lord Dalhousie allowed the Siege in Multan to escalate into a full scale battle so that annexation of the Punjab to British India could take place.
A Louis XVI white marble and ormolu striking obelisk clock circa 1785 the drum case mounted with a central figure of Minerva and flanked by two pineapple-topped obelisks with military trophy mounts to their bases, above plinth with chain-linked bollards, the white enamel dial signed Cronier Paris, pierced ormolu hands, the twin barrels movements with countwheel, strikes on a bell, 56cm high Further Information The general overall condition of the lot is good to very good, I cannot see any damages, missing parts or re gilded parts and there doesn't appear to be any restoration. The only thing to comment on really is one of the chains surrounding the clocks is broken. There are no links missing and we think it is more a case of fiddling about to fix it back together. The feet the marble is resting on is slightly bent in some places which looks to of occurred from being moved about.
