An early 18th Century hook and spike wall clock, the thirty hour movement by Walter Archer with square brass dial (25.5 cm), the chapter ring with Roman numerals inscribed "Walter Archer", within four cast brass Classical bust, bird and foliate decorated spandrels, the movement striking on a bell, 33 cm high overall, includes chain, brass covered pendulum weight and two further lead weights CONDITION REPORTS The piece is in attic stored unrestored condition. The hand is extant but broken, literally hanging on by a thread. The movement is very dusty and full of cobwebs but appears to be all there, though this cannot be guaranteed. There is a recently added paper clip holding the face to the movement on the top. The base connections appear sound. The bell appears sound though the nut at the top is very stiff. The loose/spare parts include one large lead weight, one small lead weight, a lead ring weight to the chain and a brass covered lead pendulum weight and cog. There is no actual pendulum - see images for further detail. It is not known if the piece is or could be in working condition. It is clear that a good clean is needed

Bell had a professional relationship with other London horologists including Robert Hooke and Thomas Tompion, the latter helped Hewitt to itemise and evaluate Bell’s workshop equipment and tools which Hewitt had inherited on Bell’s death.Despite being an extremely accomplished clockmaker, Hewitt appears to have joined the Curriers’ Company in 1697, thus watches and clocks by Hewitt are very rare.
