A French gilt and bronzed metal mantel clock - early 20th century, with half-hour outside countwheel bell strike movement, no. 805, white Roman enamel dial, the case with a pair of lovers in a garden setting atop the baroque style pierced gilt metal base decorated with swags, foliage and rocaille, on scroll feet, 35cm. high.
A rare treen Georgian fisherman's or poacher's companion - in boxwood, with ten winders to the outer circumference, the turned top finial unscrewing to release the central column of four screw threaded boxes to hold hooks and lead weights, the lower box holding a fixed double spool, contained in apapier mȃché and tooled leather case with pull-off lid, the box with remnants of a label, with the printed lettering 'HEREFORDSHIRE' clearly legible, the companion 14.5cm. high, the case 15.5cm. high, faults.* A similar example illustrated in Pinto (Edward), Treen and Other Wooden Bygones, pub. G. Bell & Sons, London 1969, p.267, pl.286. * Condition: Five of the tips to the top of the winders chipped, and chips to three at the lower end. One of the winders is missing. One of the threaded connections between two of the boxes is loose, although it does stay connected. There is a hole to the lid of the case and losses to the paper label to the flange connecting to the lid.
