A Russian silver and malachite table bell with reputed Royal provenance the silver plated bell engraved with nine names of warships from the Russian fleet, in Cyrillic text, comprising Petropavlovsk, Borodino, Ekaterina II, Oryol, Suvorov, Varyag, Sinop, Rostislav and Almaz, on a naturalistic malachite base with sprung gilt metal striker and applied engraved gold royal cipher for Tsar Nicholas II and white metal anchor set with old cut diamonds, the bell surmounted by a cast silver double headed eagle holding a crown aloft, the heads with gilt beaks and inset cabochon ruby eyes, the wings and breast adorned with enamelled shields, probably the arms of the ships named on the bell, the crown set with old cut diamonds, rubies and emeralds, apparently unmarked, 8¾in. (22cm.) high * This table bell is reputed to have been given as a gift by Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, when visiting British waters off the Isle of Wight in 1909 on his yacht the Standart, accompanied by an entourage of vessels from the Russian Navy.
A magnificent French grey marble and ormolu mantle clock c.1860, the eight day movement signed `D. Roussel, Paris, 1065` and striking on a bell, the enamelled dial with Arabic numerals, outer minutes and floral swagged decoration, pierced gilt hands, the large case with urn finial suspending ormolu floral swags over an arched top, the dial beneath on a fluted, ormolu mounted column flanked by ormolu gryphons holding further swags, on a serpentine stepped base with beaded gilt metal mounts, centred by a large ormolu figure of a maiden seated reading, on beaded gilt bun feet, 25½in. (65.5cm.) high, 19in. (48cm.) wide.
A rare late-17th / early 18th century gilt bronze square table clock probably German, the square hinged case with serpentine top and base, the silvered chapter ring engraved with Roman hour numerals alternated with fleur-de-lys and outer Arabic minutes, the centre and corners with engraved and repoussé shell and foliate decoration, pierced scroll steel hands, one probably replaced, the glazed sides within silvered foliate engraved and paper scrolled borders, enclosing a single fusee movement with baluster pillars, silvered pierced and engraved backcock, silvered regulator disc, striking a bell to the base, raised on shell scroll feet, height 2¾in. (7cm.), 3¼in. (8.25cm.) square.
A fine 19th century French ormolu `cercle tournants` clock the `cercle tournants` movement striking on a bell, the domed cover with stiff leaf decoration and pineapple finial, encircled by a serpent, it`s forked tongue forming the hand to the rotating chapter rings beneath, with inset enamelled Roman numerals with Arabic minutes above, on an urn form case with pedestal base, also encircled by a serpent, flanked by a pair of angular loop handles suspending a husk swag, standing on a swagged fluted column with reeded and cord moulded base, on a square plinth, 21¾in. (55cm.) high * Provenance: With original invoice from Hoffman, Dealer in fine Clocks and Barometers, dated 1987.
A 19th Century French lacquered brass carriage alarm clock by Drocourt, with eight day movement striking on a bell, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals and inscribed `T. Martin ... Regent St, London`, above subsidiary alarm dial, the back plate with `D.C` maker`s mark and numbered `7017`, the one-piece case with swing handle above bevelled glass panels, on bracket feet, height approx 16cm, together with a key.
