A Tibetan brass temple bell, early 20th century, relief cast with a dragon chasing a flaming pearl and supported on a carved and wire inlaid black wood stand, character marks "Yonghe Zao". Height 44 cm, width 26 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bell has been polished. The hammered decoration is slightly erased through polishing. There are no visible cracks or faults. The bell has been cast in two and each side has three matching character marks (see additional photograph). The ebonised carved stand is structurally sound with no obvious cracks however there is a small chip to the very top but nothing too distracting. The right hand carved dragon has its right inset eye missing.

Autograph Interest Notecard With Peter Pan Reference Attributed To J M Barrie Dated February 1909 Framed Note Of Thanks believed to be handwritten by the author of Peter Pan and Wendy. Dated Feb 1909 (Between the first public performance of the play in 1904 and the publishing of the book in 1911) The note is hand written in cursive script, to the top left, printed in blue ink is the word 'Tinker Bell' with cursive underlining. The card reads 'Must get some "Fairy Dust" from the fairies if you want to fly. Love from Peter Pan'. Dear Diana, many thanks for your nice letter JM'. The card is dated to top left Feb 21/09. Framed and mounted in small period frame, the mount shows several areas of staining, there are some areas of foxing to the letter. According to our client this item has remained in the family's possession from the early 20th century.

A brass cased four glass mantle clock, late 19th century, the enamelled dial with Roman numerals and brocot movement on display and with mercurial compensating pendulum, with eight day movement chiming on a bell. Height 30 cm.

Lot 1109

A French gilt metal and Cararra marble mantle clock, circa 1900, cast as a Classical styled female draping a garland of flowers over a cherub over a white enamelled dial with eight day movement chiming on a bell and signed for "Samuel Marti, Paris 1900", the base inset with gilt metal panels of mischievous putti and all upon raised short legs. Height 32 cm, width 27 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock is in generally good order. The movement winds on both trains and seems to be ticking away as it should. The strike mechanism operates when manually advanced. The dial is in generally very good order. There is one small surface fracture to the enamel to the left of the numeral 10. This is not visible with the door closed. We have the pendulum but no key. The metalwork is all in generally good order. There is some rubbing to the original gilding particularly around the drapes and the extremities of the figures. All feet are present. There are some minor edge nibbles to the marble base but no significant losses.

Lot 1640

A 19th century mahogany longcase clock, with foliate carved hood, painted circular dial and eight day striking movement by Patterson, Airdrie, with arched trunk door flanked by canted angles, the base matched. Height 227 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in generally very good condition. There is a minor loss to the veneer above the circular door hinge. All of the scrolling mouldings are in good condition. The trunk door is not significantly warped and closes as it should. We have the key. The plinth which as stated appears to be from a different case is also in good order with no condition issues. The dial looks to have been fairly recently re-finished and is in generally very good order with only minor blemishes. The clock is currently ticking away. There is however no catgut to the strike train. We have only one weight. The striking mechanism namely the bell, rack and hammer are missing as is the date wheel mechanism.

Robert Anning Bell, RA (British, 1863-1933) "The Warning" signed lower left "R A NE / Bell / '02" watercolour 18 x 25cm (7 x 10in) Other Notes: Robert Anning Bell was born in London on 14 April 1863, the son of Robert George Bell and Mary Charlotte Knight. He studied at University College School, Westminster College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools, followed by a time in Paris. He later shared a studio with George Frampton (1860-1928) with whom he created a series of designs for an altarpiece which was exhibited at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and later installed in the Church of St Clare, Liverpool. From 1895 to 1899, Bell was an instructor at the Liverpool University School of Architecture. During this time he became associated with the Della Robbia Pottery in Birkenhead and became increasingly successful as a book designer and illustrator. In 1911, Bell was appointed Chief of the Design Section at the Glasgow School of Art and from 1918 to 1924, he was Professor of Design at the Royal College of Art. He continued to paint and exhibit at the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club and the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours. Dated 1902. Condition appears fine.

It is believed to be based on one of the two maps of Perthshire published prior to the date of this painting - both of which were drawn by John Stobie, the first published in 1787 and the second in 1805.Heaphy was the first President of the Society of British Artists and was portrait-painter to HRH The Princess of Wales and The Duke of Wellington.We are grateful to the Archives and History Department at the A K Bell Library, Perth, for their assistance with the catalogue entry.The sitter’s Neck Order has been identified by Cleave and Co.“We believe this to be the Baronet’s Badge of Nova Scotia as this is also oval in design with blue edged enamel and the same sandy coloured ribbon”Condition: Very faded and with loss of colour. Thomas Lister, an imposing 18th century musical longcase clock, the oak and banded case with caddy top hood having 13 inch brass dial, moonphase disc to the arch, with seasonal figural spandrels, signed 'Thos Lister' to the chapter ring below, cut away calendar dial below the centre, the movement with substantial pillars and large barrel train playing on 10 bells, striking on a further bell, four winding squares to the dial centre (one possibly for tune selection or adjustment), the pendulum swinging between the plates, the trunk with star inlaid door, 262cm (102in) Other Notes: Thomas Lister of Halifax, born in 1745 in Luddenden, Yorkshire, trained with his father (also Thomas) and others in this well-known family of clockmakers. He left his father's studio in 1765, setting up his own workshop in Halifax where he worked until his death in 1814. In his own workshop he concentrated on quality eight-day clocks in mahogany cases. His work and output increased after the death of his only serious local competitor, Thomas Ogden, in 1769. He made a number of very complicated clocks including world-time and musical clocks. Thomas Lister senior, of the well known family of Halifax clockmakers, started out producing 30hour cottage type longcase clocks, his son Thomas junior then began making more complicated clocks, this surely being one of those examples....
