A LATE 19TH CENTURY BLACK SLATE AND GILT METAL MANTEL CLOCK, the rectangular top surmounted by a recumbant greyhound above a gilt metal accanthus style cornice, the plain case applied with gilt metal Roman numerals with a coiled snake forming the hands, bell strike, the eight day movement, marked 'E. DEHU, A CHALONS SM', on a rectangular gilt metal and slate plinth base, height 40cm (condition: wear to the gilding, most particularly to the greyhound, the slate case has chips along some edges, especially the front bottom left corner and on the back of the case is a large filled repair to the top right hand corner, on the back there is a diagonal crack through the plinth, there are damp spots over the case)

The "awakaned one" is showing a peaceful expression; sitted in a lotus position holding a typical prayer bell in the left hand and a dorje in the right hand. The two objects were the most important ritual items in buddhist tradition; both respectevely symbolizing the sounds of Buddha's voice and the "thunderbolt" of enlightenment. Original vintage travel poster for the town of Vise in Belgium, located on the river Meuse, in the Walloon province of Liège. Great Midcentury Modern colouful and stylised illustration by Ray Rikir showing a view of the river Meuse seen through an open window with the Town Hall tower and the church bell tower overlooking the river. In the foreground of the image, a black bearskin hat and a drum are lying on the window seal. Vise is renowed for its Royal Company of the Franks Arquebusiers or Drums Corps, who was founded in 1579. Dissolved after the fall of the Old Regime, they have since the 19e century reformed into pleasure societies and parade through the streets of the Mosan city twice a year. Printed in Belgium by Imp.
