Trevor Bell b.1930 Coastal Image signed and dated 1.57; signed and inscribed with title on the reverse oil on canvasboard 91.5x61cm.; 36x24in. Painted in 1957 the year before Bell's first one-man exhibition at the Waddington Galleries. Bell had moved to St Ives from Leeds at Terry Frost's suggestion where he rented a cottage at Tregerthen Zennor next door to Karl Weschke. He spent two periods in Italy in 1958-9 having won an Italian Government Scholarship and was a prizewinner at the first Paris International Biennale in 1959.
