A GEORGE III OAK LONGCASE CLOCK the 25cm brass dial signed on the chapter ring Hen Baker Appleby, with matted centre, cherub-and-crown spandrels and pierced steel hand, the thirty hour movement with turned pillars and striking on a large bell, the case with stepped pediment and fruitwood veneered frieze with turned pillars, the trunk enclosed by a long crossbanded door, on plain base, 207cm h++The seatboard an old replacement, the brass keyplate to the trunk door added in the 19th c; a small hole in the dial door where a knob or other handle was once fitted. A Victorian Minton Parian figure "Miranda", modelled by John Bell, height 37cm (left wrist reglued), impressed marks, also a Parian bust of a female, possibly Queen Alexandra, height 15cm. The Minton figure of Miranda is pictured in the Dictionary of Minton by Paul Atterbury and Maureen Batkin, page 31 and was originally modelled by John Bell in 1851 and later selected as a prize by the Art Union (2).
A French portico clock, of typical form, the circular enamelled dial with gilt metal surround, with Roman numerals and two-train movement, inscribed "Bolviller a Paris", with winged cherub seated on swing as pendulum and with interesting side mounted escapement to the two-train movement with bell, the movement stamped "Gold Medal Vincenti & Co.", with four barley sugar twist columns being brass inlaid and with conforming base raised on short bracket feet. Height 21 ins, width 10.5 ins.
