Autograph letter signed, 'Jacob Bell', no date, to Sir Thomas, hoping that Sir Thomas might answer a correspondent for him for his next number [of the Pharmaceutical Journal], 'My plan is to give a condensed reply as brief as it can be without being useless', 2 pp. with a further two full-page pen and ink drawings by Bell, the first showing him 'A few days before going to press' behind over-piled desk, the second relaxing at a clear desk 'The day after publication', 8vo Jacob Bell was one of the founders of the Pharmaceutical Society and editor of the Pharmaceutical Journal. He also moved in wide artistic circles and acted as patron, adviser and friend to a network of artists. (1)

Queen’s Own Royal Staffordshire Yeomanry Officer's bell-top shako plate circa 1838-50. A splendid large die-stamped gilt example. Crowned Maltese cross, the centre of each arm recessed with silver hobnail inserts, mounted with silvered domed disc to laurel wreath centre which bears pierced gilt roped circlet ‘Queens Own Royal Yeomanry’ with Stafford Knot to centre. Two loops to reverse with three pairs of securing wires behind the separate crown. VGC
South Hertfordshire Yeomanry Officer's bell-top shako plate circa 1831 A splendid large die-stamped silver on copper example. Crowned Maltese cross, the centre of each arm recessed, mounted with rich gilt domed disc to roped centre which bears silver hart crossing a ford. Two loops to reverse with two pairs of securing wires behind the crown. Top arm of cross strengthened or reattached many years ago and top pearl absent otherwise VGC.
1819-1829 pattern bell top shako. A good scarce example of black beaver skin with patent leather crown and peak. The shako is with 2 inch gold lace band to the top and 1/2 inch to the base. To either side, a replacement Lion head boss supports replacement gilt chin scales. The interior is with soft leather sweatband and part silk lining to the crown. PLEASE NOTE the shako with age wear, bullion lace toned to near black.
A pair of Chinese 'Dayazhai' style turquoise ground vases19th CenturyOf ovoid form with lion handles, the shoulders draped with chilong, grisaille enamelled with dragons amid flowers and foliage on a tuquoise ground, 25cm high, together with a 'Dayazhai' yellow ground teapot and cover, 19th Century, of bell form and similarly decorated on a yellow ground, 11.5cm high. (3) Conditon Report: Vases: One has a small chip to the underside rim. Both have rubbing to gilt in places. Please refer to images.
