A small brass propeller attached to a mahogany plinth, diameter approx 28cm, a brass cased porthole ship's clock, the white enamelled dial set with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds hand bearing Arabic numerals, mounted to a mahogany plinth, diameter 23cm and a small wall mounted brass bell with later hand knotted striker handle (af) (3). CONDITION REPORT The dial of the porthole clock is in need of some attention. There is an area between 8 and 9 o'clock that has been repainted, with further areas of the painted finish missing. Crazing and fading visible to the numbers.
A late 19th/early 20th century oak lap desk of small proportions, decorated with applied brass anchor motifs to the corners, the hinged lid enclosing a small recess (lacking pen tray), the fold-out section with baize-lined panel (lacking the upper part of the writing slope), a treen three-section pipe rack modelled as a lighthouse and a further desk ornament in the form of a ship's wheel centred with a brass bell (3).
JOHN TAYLOR OF PETWORTH; a c1790 pine cased cottage-style longcase clock, the moulded cornice above square glazed door, flanked by turned quarter pilasters, enclosing a square brass dial with silvered chapter ring set with Roman numerals and a five-minute track, the inner silvered dial marked 'Taylor Petworth' (John) and decorated with columns, swags and floral patterns, with pierced corner brass spandrels, single weight thirty-hour movement striking on a bell, height approx 206cm, diameter of dial 9"/23cm.

This retreat from London was frequented by many of the Bloomsbury Set and was central to the ongoing artistic output of both Grant and Bell, who lived at the house for the rest of their lives.*Artist's Resale Right may apply to this lot.Condition report: Some surface dust. Some small loses to upper edge where board has slipped in frame and pushed against nails of frame. Diagonal mark to right corner appears to have been made by artist rather than a later scratch. Seen under uv light. No obvious retouching.
