JAMES PATERSON (1854-1932) ALPINE LANDSCAPE oil on board, signed and dated 1877 28cm x 38cm note: Financed by his father, Paterson set out in 1876 for Paris to study under Louis Jacquesson de La Chevreuse and Jean Paul Laurens. During this period in Paris (1876-79) Paterson spent time on drawing and painting excursions to northern France with fellow students and fellow "Glasgow boys" Thomas Millie Dow, Mann and Bell. It is believed this Alpine Landscape may be a rare example from this period.
