A FINE FRENCH PRISONER OF WAR BONE SHIP MODEL EARLY 19TH CENTURY of a forty-eight gun frigate of the Royal Navy, with a planked and pinned hull with horn strakes, with three masts with standing and running rigging, the stern carved with a coat of arms flanked by a lion and a unicorn above balustrading and windows, with a polychrome decorated winged female figurehead, the deck with capstan, water barrels, a bell, two longboats and metal cannon on bone carriages, gratings, with gilt metal details, mounted on a parquetry base inlaid with a bone and ebony chequer board with fan ends and an outer gallery on stained red bone feet, with a glazed display case (2) the model: 43.5cm high, 50cm long, the display case: 50.4cm high, 62cm wide Provenance Major Edward Croft-Murray, purchased on the 2nd December 1908 from Lisle Court, Wootton, Isle of Wight for £4 and 12 shillings and listed in an inventory as 'Model of Frigate, in bone in glass case, on a mahogany bracket, made by French prisoners of war at Portchester Castle about 1810', thence at Perivale, Ryde, Isle of Wight, where listed in an inventory in 1926. From the collection of Edward Croft-Murray CBE (1907-1980). Catalogue Note Portchester Castle is a medieval fortress based at Portchester to the east of Fareham, Hampshire. It was used as a prison from the 17th century and in the 19th century it was a gaol for over 7,000 French prisoners of the Napoleonic wars.

(2) 21.8cm (max) Provenance By repute, these communion goblets were used in the West United Presbitarian Congregational Church of Coldstream. There were two churches, one in east and one in west Coldstream and at one stage they combined and hence these goblets became surplus.

A LATE GEORGE III CORNISH MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK BY WILLIAM WEST OF HELSTON, CORNWALL the brass eight day movement with four turned pillars and an anchor escapement striking on a bell, the arched silvered twelve and a half inch dial engraved with figures in various country pursuits, with Roman and Arabic numerals and a date aperture, with pierced and scroll blued steel hands and seconds hand, signed 'William West, Helstone', the arch with a moonphase painted with a sailing ship, moon faces and a coastal scene and inscribed 'High Water At Hayle', with two demi-lune maritime vignettes and further numerals, the case inlaid with marquetry fan paterae, the arched hood with fluted columns 229cm high Provenance From the collection of Edward Croft-Murray CBE (1907-1980). Catalogue Note William West (1751-1831) of St. Blazey was a Cornish engineer and brother-in-law to Richard Trevithick. In 1797 he married Joanna Harvey, the daughter of John Harvey of Hayle, He had a 20% share of Trevithick's 'Patent of High Pressure Steam Engines' but in 1815 disappointed by the return on his investment he became a clock and watch maker and he is famous for his 'West's Chronometers'.

An 18th century drinking glass, c.1750, with a bell form bowl, over a multi-series air twist stem with upper and medial knop, raised on a conical foot, 17.7cm high, another similar example with a drawn trumpet bowl, 16.5cm high, and an ale glass, with a drawn funnel bowl, engraved with hops and barley, raised on a teared plain stem, and a folded conical foot, 18cm high (3)Condition report: Knopped glass - Scratches to bowl. Drawn trumpet - Scratches and surface wear. Ale glass - Scratches and surface wear. All have slightly angled finishes to the bowl rim, possibly suggesting they have been polished.

The reading girl is chipped to the base. Classical female with nibbles to the foot rim.

A George III oak longcase clock, the hood with fan paterae, over Corinthian columns, enclosing a broken arch brass dial, with subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and foliate spandrels, the roundel inscribed 'Kirkwood, Airdrie', the four pillar eight day movement striking on a bell, 49cm wide, 24.5cm deep, 235cm highCondition report: Knocks, splits and lifting veneers. General wear and losses commensurate with age.

A mid 18th Century and later eight-day longcase clock, by Archibald Strachan, the 12in. brass dial with silvered chapter ring, roman numerals and arabic minutes, with subsidiary seconds dial and date dial to the arch, striking on a bell, contained within an associated ebonised oak case with broken swan neck pediment, shaped trunk door, boxed base, raised on a plinth base, 220cms high.

Stratton, Minchin Hampton, an eight day 18th Century clock face on bracket, the 12 inch painted dial, with Roman numerals and Arabic minutes, with subsidiary date and seconds dials, enclosed by painted spandrels and striking a bell, above a later bracket.
