One has a quiver of arrows, the other has no attribute but appears to be missing one to the open hand.The dial with various old cracks and splits, some chips and losses - the areas around the 'III' and 'VIII' most damagedThe movement has a bell, a key, and a pendulum all present - these appear to be replacements. Marti et Cie, MEDAILLE DE BRONZE roundel and numbers 3778, 5 2 to backplate, the circular red marble dial with gilt Roman numerals and pierced hands set behind a hinged cast bronze glazed bezel decorated with stylised leafy motifs, the Belge noir marble case with surmount cast as a recumbent sphinx set on a canted platform to the cavetto mounded rouge de France marble superstructure, the front with parcel gilt bronze stylised wing and pendant reed cast mount over the dial flanked by triangular red marble banded panels continuing around each angle to incorporate the tapered sides, on gilt fillet-edged canted base applied with a winged Pharaoh's mask centred mount to apron over parcel gilt pad feet, 37cm high  Condition Report: The movement is intact with no obvious evidence of alteration or significant replacements and will just about run and strike however a service is required. The bell is currently loose (is lacking securing screw) and there is no pendulum present. The dial panel is a little loose with some edge chipping (not visible with the bezel closed) otherwise is in good condition. The case has some noticeable chipping to the lower edges and corners at the base otherwise faults are limited to other very slight edge chipping/wear. The mounts retain their original finish but with some wear and discolouration. The rear cover is lacking its glass.Clock does not have a pendulum or winding key. Condition Report Disclaimer

Aesthetic table design of 1885 , a carpet covered octagonal top and ebonized base table having stylized turned decoration , bearing an impressed elliptical shaped brass label under, 22 in.( 55.8 cm)wide x 25 in. ( 63.5 cm high)The son of Captain Henry Coupland, a mariner in the West Indies trade, Richard Coupland was born 1 April 1814, in Lancaster. He became a freeman of Lancaster in 1829-30 at the age of sixteen by patrimony, as customary being the son of a freeman. As a young man is is said he was sent to the Gillows? Oxford Street shop where he became chief salesman, then head of staff. Richard Coupland (upholsterer) witnessed a codicil to Robert Gillow's will on 15 September 1835, suggesting he was employed by the firm at this period.By 1849 he had left Gillow to join Peter Booth Bell as a partner, heralding the firm name changed from ?Lodge & Bell' to 'Bell & Coupland'.Bell & Coupland had a branch in Preston managed by Bell and Richard Coupland directed the Lancaster business. In 1863, Coupland went into local politics, became an Alderman and was Mayor of Lancaster in 1868-69 The Furniture Gazette (16 September 1882) recorded that the firm took two spaces in the Preston Guild procession in 1882, with one lorry showing upholsterers covering a black and gilt couch with silk, a mahogany davenport & some oak chair work and on the other lorry was an octagon show case containing silk curtains and other materials. The Furniture Gazette (6 May & 23 September 1882) recorded Bell & Coupland as suppliers of the furniture for the new County offices, included the Public Hall, Preston. Richard Coupland died in July 1884, but the firm continued and thrived under the management of Henry Coupland.Bell & Coupland marked their wares following Gillows and Lodge & Co.'s practice.
