Three early 20th Century table lamps, all with glass painted shades, the metal table lamps comprising one with arched arm and adjustable top, 25cm high, another of bell shape with push button, 21cm high and another in Edgar Brant style with wrought iron on triangular base with stylised flower heads supporting an orange and yellow faceted shade, 33cm high Shades have been chipped to around rim^ arched example shade is bruised to top^ Edgar Brant style shade in good condition^ metal rusted
17th-18th century AD. A bell-shaped bronze helmet with adjustable nasal guard and two plume-holders, arabesque details expressed in concentric bands with integral lozengiform lobes, the nasal with recurved upper end and ring. 1.03 kg, nasal: 24cm (9 1/2"). Property of a Middlesex gentleman; previously in a private London collection; formerly with David Aaron Gallery, and before that in a German private collection since 1982. Fair condition.
9th-10th century AD. A silver disc brooch comprising: basal disc with scooped rim, hatched field with reserved knotted serpent motifs, central bell-shaped fitting with four-armed cage above, each arm terminating in a snake's head; four model rams(?) facing the cage each with spirals to the shoulders and hips, horns joined to the tail; at the rim, four bear-heads facing inwards; pin-lugs and catch to the reverse. See item 112584. SHM 246, in The Swedish History Museum, Stockholm. 86.5 grams, 62mm (2 1/2"). Property of a professional collector; acquired before 1990 this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.163524-10102. Han Dynasty, 206 BC-220 AD. A hollow-formed ceramic figure of a standing female attendant in a floor-length robe, her hands enfolded in the voluminous bell sleeves, the toes of her footwear protruding from beneath the front of the gown. 7.5 kg, 64cm (25 1/4"). Property of a North London gentleman; previously in a private collection formed in the 1990s; accompanied by a copy of a positive thermoluminescence report issued by Laboratory Kotalla, no.49CM110520. Finely modelled.
A mid 19th century French lacquered brass hour repeating carriage clock, in gorge case, with enamelled Roman dial and unsigned movement striking upon a bell, width 3.5in. depth 3in. height 5.25inCONDITION: Overall in very good restored condition, top plate probably original, movement going but not tested for timekeeping, backplate is numbered 76 in the lower left corner and inscribed Hans for the adjustment, no other inscriptions or stamps.
Drocourt & Co. A 19th century French quarter repeating carriage alarm clock, retailed by Leroy & Fils, Regent Street and Paris, with gorge case, enamelled Roman dial, blued steeled hands and movement striking on a bell, width 3.5in. depth 3.25in. height 5.5in.CONDITION: In somewhat neglected condition, case looks to have been overpainted or re-gilt with a matted finish which is now wearing away, dial with a fine hairline crack running from the top left corner into 55, lettering on the dial is feint and there are other tiny dirt specks throughout, hands look original, slightly oxidised, right side panel has a tiny chip in the lower left corner, escapement probably a later replacement, movement running but not tested for timekeeping, repeat function is not working correctly and the larger hand continuously strikes the bell when the repeat is wound, backplate of movement engraved Retard / Avance with the Drocourt stamp to the left of the bell, numbered 9455 beneath the Aiguilles adjustment, also stamped 9003 in the lower left corner, engraved at the base Repousee Por Leroy & Fils ...., matching number 9003 stamped to the base of the case.
James Walter Marshall. A late 19th century French ormolu cased quarter repeating carriage alarm clock, with signed enamelled Roman dial and movement striking on a bell, width 3.75in. depth 3.25in. height 5.75in.CONDITION: Case with a matted gilt finish worn down to the base metal in many places, dial with some light dirt spotting but otherwise good, hands look original, dial with the word Paris beneath 6 o'clock, back door glass with chipping near the lower right corner, escapement possibly original, movement runs but not tested for timekeeping, repeat function partially striking but out of sync, backplate engraved slow/fast alarm at the top, hands above alarm hand and James Walter Marshall, Paris lower down, numbered 909.
A late 19th century French ormolu mounted Sevres style porcelain mantel clock, with jewelled decoration, of urn form supported by faun head ormolu supports upon a shaped oval base, the dial painted with Cupid, eight day Japy Freres movement numbered F1607/5355, width 8.25in. height 15.25in.CONDITION: All of the joints where ormolu meets porcelain are rather loose and wobbly, there has been a break through the neck of the porcelain just about level with the top of the faun's heads (just beneath the ormolu ring), this has been reasonably well restored but can still be seen, gilding to porcelain good, a few small losses to the jewelling principally to the turquoise coloured beading around the top of the base, dial a little dull in finish, is not and looks to never have been glazed, slight raising of the gilding around the white interspacers between the numerals looks slightly pitted, hands look original, gilt Sevres interlaced mark to the underside, movement has a bell but no pendulum or key, looks complete but unable to be tested for timekeeping.
A 19th century French bronze and simulated Sienna marble mantel clock, surmounted with Cupid seated upon a naturalistic base, unsigned eight day movement striking upon a bell numbered 367, width 13in. depth 5.5in. height 21in.CONDITION: Bronze in good order of a dark chocolate tone, some very minor surface dents and scratches, dial oxidised with the numerals now worn and the maker's name illegible, hands look original, simulated Sienna marble looks to be some sort of composition, a little soft in the moulding at the edges and painted to reasonable effect but now a little worn from polishing, a few small scattered chips around the edge of these sections, lower right foot bent backwards, movement complete and going but not tested for timekeeping.
A.B. Savory & Sons of Cornhill. A late Victorian ormolu mantel clock, with trophy, flower and bell husk decorated case, enamelled Roman dial and Sevres style pink porcelain plaques to the base, eight day movement signed by Savory & Sons with JBD stamp numbered 28527/14-7, width 12.5in. depth 5in. height 12in., with associated giltwood plinthCONDITION: Overall a little tarnished with the ormolu somewhat matted and varying in tone from a toffee colour to a light gold, dial in good clean order, does not appear to have ever been glazed, hands look original, porcelain plaques good but slightly out of alignment, plinth looks associated, movement complete but lacks a pendulum and not tested for timekeeping.
A mid 19th century French bronze and ormolu portico clock, of ornate architectural form, decorated with foliate scrolls, leaf motifs and flowerheads, with silvered Roman dial and adjustable bi-metallic pendulum, eight day Pons countwheel movement dated 1827 and stamped B.P. & F, 3873, width 12.5in. depth 7.75in. height 25in.CONDITION: Slight rubbing to the bronze across the top just from polishing over the years, ormolu has a matted finish and is a little dirty, base plinth is slightly out of alignment with the ormolu mount above it showing one hole dead centre, dial oxidised, was once signed but that is now erased, movement complete, runs then stops and lacks a bell, not tested for timekeeping.
A large Regency brass inset mahogany repeating chiming bracket clock, with swept arched case, flanked by Egyptianesque pilasters, painted Roman dial and unsigned twin fusee movement, width 19in. depth 9.5in. height 37.25in.CONDITION: Top finial with a dull finish but looks original, main body of case a little dried out, of even rich mahogany tone but would benefit from a repolish, fine horizontal splits running through either side of the case about level with the four brass pineapple finials, finials are a little wobbly, a section of ebonised moulding missing from the arch above the door to the right side, pilasters a little oxidised, glazed side panels good, two short cracks in the veneers to the lower right side, no key to the front door, dial probably repainted but of some age and now a little dirty with minor scratching particularly around the winding holes, hands look very simple and may well be later, ball feet oxidised, back door lacking key and with a somewhat duller finish on the left side, lock coming loose and in the locked position, main section of missing ebonised moulding inside the case, along with two other small pieces of moulding, movement looks untouched, chiming on eight bells and striking on a separate bell, comes with adjustable pendulum but not in any way signed, looks complete but not tested for timekeeping.
Dwerrihouse Carter & Son, Berkeley Square. A George III mahogany cased hour repeating bracket clock, with circular enamelled dial and signed twin fusee movement, width 11.25in. depth 8in. height 14.5in.CONDITION: Case of a good rich mahogany tone, somewhat dull on the top with scattered minor splits, scuffs and dents commensurate with age, top handle slightly bent out of shape, curved wooden section that it is set into a little out of shape from the brass rim that sits beneath it, verdigris and oxidisation spotting on all of the brass work, front door has lock with working key that also works the back door, small section of damage to the ivory escutcheon, fine hairline cracking running left and right of the bezel, door opens to reveal slow / fast adjustment above 12 o'clock, enamelled dial looks good, one or two tiny hairline cracks near 1 o'clock and central, blued steel hands may well be later, fine vertical cracks above each of the side panels, back door has lost its escutcheon and has damage to the left side and near top right corner, movement looks to be in good clean condition but not tested for timekeeping, comes with adjustable pendulum that has lost its retention clip and what looks to be an associated bell, comes with case key and two winding keys.
James Warren Jnr of Canterbury. A George III mahogany bracket clock, with arched case and painted Roman dial, twin fusee movement with anchor escapement striking on a bell, W. 12.5in. D. 7in. H.16in.CONDITION: Overall in good restored condition, case of an even tone, one or two fine old cracks showing in the veneers, dial has been repainted and hands restored, working key for the front door, seperate working key for the back door, movement with engraved backplate looks complete and going but not tested for timekeeping, comes with an old possibly original winding key.
