A 19th/20th century whitewashed Medici-type urn, of campana form with the body relief moulded with classical figures above a pair of masks on opposing sides, 62cm diameter x 91cm highThe Medici vase is a marble krater that was sculpted in Athens in the first century BC. The vase is bell shaped and over 1.5 metres high. A krater is a vessel for diluting wine with water. Ok, but whitewash very worn.

A French gilt brass mantel clock, circa 1890-1900, with vase finial and moulded ring handles, the case cast with neoclassical mouldings and raised on four acanthus moulded feet, the 4-inch (10cm) off-white enamel dial having black Arabic numerals around a gilt metal pierced centre roundel, the eight day Japy Freres movement striking on a bell, numbered 17903 with matching number to pendulum, 39.5cm high.Case fair to good with some surface scratches and wear to plates. Moulded elements are good with some minor wear to gilding. Dial appears good. Movement winds, runs and strikes but not tested for timekeeping or longevity.

A George III inlaid oak brass dial longcase clock, the arched hood with three brass finials, the door with chequer stringing and flanked by fluted full columns, the trunk with arched door flanked by canted corners inlaid with conforming chequer stringing, the plain base box raised on a shaped foot, the 12" brass dial with silvered chapter ring having Roman hour and Arabic minute tracks, silvered subsidiary seconds and a calendar aperture, moulded spandrels to the corners and dolphin spandrels flanking a classical medallion to the arch, the eight-day four pillar movement striking on a bell, with two weights and pendulum 46cm wide x 20cm deep x 222cm high.Dial silvering worn. Pendulum stem detached from bob and lacking suspension spring and so clock has not been tested running. Movement appears sound and does wind and strike. Case and hood has some shrinkage splits to boards, especially to trunk door and right side of base box. Some minor chips and small losses in places. General cosmetic marks throughout consistent with age and use.

A George III inlaid oak and mahogany painted dial longcase clock, by Inigo Smith of Wrexham, the hood with swan-neck pediment and door flanked by fluted full columns, the trunk with shaped cross-banded door flanked by fluted quarter column pilasters, the base box with cross-banded panel, the 13" dial having black Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, painted with two castle vignettes and flower spandrels, the four-pillar eight-day movement striking on a bell, with pendulum and two weights, 51cm wide x 23cm deep x 204cm high.Pendulum stem has snapped and has no suspension spring, consequently the clock has not been seen to run or tested for timekeeping. Movement appears in good order and does wind and strike, seconds and calendar advance correctly. Dial appears good with typical faint cracklure throughout and some wear/chipping to the paint on the outer edges. Hood lacking central finial, probably originally brass. Base box lacking foot or feet. Case overall fair to good with some cosmetic marks consistent with age and use. Left hand cornice beneath hood has a small loss to the front corner and there is a small chip to the top of the trunk door. A latch has been added to keep the trunk door closed. There is no door key or winder with this clock.

FIRST ISSUE DUST JACKET, without the photographer credit on the rear panel.   Published just after the end of the Spanish Civil War, For Whom the Bell Tolls is based on Hemingway's experiences as a war correspondent, and tells the story of Robert Jordan, a young American volunteer attached to a Republican guerrilla unit during the Spanish Civil War. Fitzpatrick notes Leonard Woolf's recollection that the wrappers for the second edition were not from Roger Fry's Omega Workshops (as the wrappers of the first edition), but were copies. Original cinnamon cloth, spine gilt-lettered (some light spotting to sheet edges); unrestored pale pink dust jacket printed in navy blue, designed by Vanessa Bell (some toning to front and spine panels, some minor spotting, a few tears with occasional repairs on verso).  FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, one of 3040 copies published in October 1929.   Originating in two lectures given by Woolf in October 1928 to students at the two women's colleges of Cambridge University, A Room of One's Own was first published as an essay entitled "Women and Fiction" in Forum (March, 1929).   Kirkpatrick A12b.

Original purple cloth, spine gilt-lettered (a few tiny spots to sheet edges); unrestored dust jacket printed in lime green and brown designed by Vanessa Bell (spine and edges darkened, a few pale spots, minor chipping, chip to front panel with tiny loss).  FIRST EDITION of Woolf's most experimental work, generally considered to be her masterpiece.   The novel traces six narrators from childhood through adulthood. Woolf considers the individual consciousness of each character and the ways in which those consciousnesses intersect; the soliloquies spoken by each character explore the concepts of individuality, self, and community.   A seventh character is present, but readers never hear him speak in his own voice.   Kirkpatrick A16a.

Set in June 1939 at Pointz Hall, home of the Olivers, and a neighboring village, Between the Acts focuses on the preparations for a community pageant. Woolf decided to publish the novel days before her death, but hadn't yet corrected the typescript; critics consider the work to be unfinished. Kirkpatrick A26a.

A letter of introduction for James Bell of Tennessee who was traveling to New York "on business." The recipient was the brother of Churchill Camberling, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York and well connected in New York society.
