A metal cased Mantel Clock having a part gold and part black finished case surmounted by a kneeling figure of a fisher boy, the case with crossed oars and an anchor as well as marine plants and trailing ivy and inset with oval alabaster panels (one damaged), the movement by Japy Freres having Roman numerals and chiming on a bell, 16 1/2'' wide x 14 9/16'' high x 5 3/4'' deep. Pendulum and winder present. Minute hand retaining nut absent and some losses to reeds to upper back.
An impressive Alabaster cased Mantel Clock, the putto surmounted drum-shaped enclosed movement by ''Japy Freres & Ce., Med' D'honheur Grande Exposition 1855'', numbered 2883/77, striking on a bell and having the anchor escapement visible to the face which has Roman numerals and regulator square spindle above the 12 o'clock position and with a pendulum window beneath. 14 1/4'' wide x 6 1/8'' deep x 19 3/4'' high approx.
An elegant Ormolu/gilded Mantel Clock having a movement striking on a bell by Japy Freres & C., numbered 2725/64 with white enamelled face with Roman numerals, regulator square spindle above the 12 o'clock position, the case surmounted by two putti, one possibly Eros, gazing down at two butterflies to the plinth with crossed Olympic style torch and arrow quiver, a chain beneath the face supported by the beaks of flanking perched birds. Complete with a white marble plinth but an upper plinth is missing and accordingly the clock does not sit level. 11 1/2'' wide x 5 3/8'' deep x 14 5/8'' high, pendulum present, key lacking.
An elegant Brass cased Lantern type mantel Clock having scrolling flowering stem decoration, lion masks detail pediment and dome top with pine cone finials, the two train Japy Freres movement striking the hours and half hours on a bell and numbered GV 3108/48 with the face blued metal hands and porcelain Arabic numeral hour markers. Movement is untested, sold as seen. Case has minor loss to one front corner of hood, one cavetto moulding to top of base is loose but present, otherwise sound. Wain, Alfreton (Derbyshire), the 13-inch break arch dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes framing subsidiary seconds dial and calendar crescent, signed beneath, within rose spandrels and arch painted with a lady seated on a bank with basket of eggs, the movement rack-striking on a bell, the case with swan neck pediment, turned column, shaped short trunk door between fluted corners, and unusual geometric panelled base, 218cm high Condition: General crazing and discolouration to dial including some losses to blacking on numerals. Movement untested and sold as seen. One replacement disc terminal to swan neck pediment, cracks and repairs to both swan necks, minor cracking to hood door and missing its knob handle. Good early 19th Century Scottish mahogany-cased eight-day brass dial longcase clock, James Muirhead Junior, Glasgow, of 'Domestic Regulator' type, the 12-inch circular Roman dial with subsidiary seconds and calendar dials, inscribed Jas. Muirhead Jun'r Glasgow, the knopped four-pillar movement with deadbeat escapement, striking on a bell, the case with scroll-carved pediment and fluted frieze over conforming columns, the sides with brass lancet arch tracery, moulded break-arch long trunk door between leaf-capped fluted columns on moulded plain base, 198cm high Condition: Dial may have been previously silvered. Some typical white staining and losses to Roman numerals. Movement appears sound but is not tested and sold as seen. Case has a little cracking here and there. Losses to trunk door including to top edge moulding and top half of left side, some moulding losses to top of base, other minor damage commensurate with age and use. Brass lantern-style clock, the 6.5-inch silvered Roman dial with inner quarter track and half-hour divisions, engraved 'Luke Gray Shastone Fecit', the movement with anchor escapement and wheels of four crossings, with pinned side doors, the case with strapped bell surmount and pierced dolphin cresting on turned supports, 35cm high, together with a carved dark oak case of 'longcase clock' form, the open hood with shaped side wings, 192cm high Condition: This maker is apparantly un recorded, although there were a famiuly of clock makers called Gray at Shaston (Shaftesbury, Dorset) This clock maybe a replica of a late 17th/early 18th Century example using some original parts. The bell is oversized for this type of clock and the strap surmounts are atypical. Some staining and slight losses to numerals of chapter ring. Disc holding hands in place is clearly of a later date. Most parts of mechanisim appear sound, however this lot is untested and sold as seen. The case would appear to be carved in the late 19th century and like the clock itself includes some earlier timbers. Sold with eight day-style clock weight, plus brass-faced pendulem, the feather is missing its pin. Late 19th/early 20th Century Continental porcelain mantel clock, of vase form surmounted by 'Deutscheblumen' over winged putto terms, flower-encrusted body and scroll base upon further integral shaped plinth with scroll supports, the clock movement having a white convex enamelled dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes, the two-train movement striking on a bell, unmarked, 48cm high Condition: Typical petal losses to flower encrusted areas, please see images for more information. One putto should be holding aloft a ewer, this is detached but present and maybe missing a handle. Clock dial has infilled enamel chipping around the winding arbors, general wear to gilding.
