A pair of Chinese porcelain armorial plates, Qianlong, diameter 22cm. The coast of arms probably Hardwicke, of Staffordshire and Derbyshire. Extract from "Heirloom and Howard" p555, Hardwicke Ch’ien Lung c. 1760, the arms are of Hardwicke, of Staffordshire and Derbyshire, Argent, ? Engrailed azure, on a chief of the second three roses of the first; ? A stag statant (usually currant).The Hardwicks were originally from Hardwick in Derbyshire and had lived in north Staffordshire since the fourteenth century. William Hardwick of Darlaston who died in 1727, left eight sons; the eldest of Knightsbridge, London; and the fifth, Richard Hardwicke, born in ? Who married in June 1737 Hannah, daughter of William Bell of Arnette? House and settled in Shropshire, dying in 1785 (from whom descended the Hardwicks of Dorset). The service was possibly made for Captain Peter Hardwicke of the East Indiaman? Earl of Lincoln, who was at Canton in 1764, 1767, and ?
