An oak shield 89 cm x 69 cm with chamfered edge, the shield mounted with an array of unusual and diverse objects: What appear to be a pair of 18th century leather false legs 49 and 50 cm long. A pair of Late 18th or early 19th century leather shoes. Two similar throwing spears with leaf shaped blades, the blades 33 and 14 cm, each in the region of 165 cm overall. A long handled spoon with broad bowl. A pair of carved hardwood South seas type tongs or eating implement, perhaps a cannibal fork, with carved handle, 39cm. A fragment of 17th century or earlier armour, an articulated shoulder piece in four parts with signs of leather fastening straps to the reverse, with two additional unattached sections. A section of padded fabric, perhaps to be worn over the shoulder beneath armour, approximately 48 x 23 cm. Two similar woven raffia bracelets. Items no longer attached but formerly part of the display: An 18th/19th century iron key with scrolling handle, 17 cm long. A leather purse with of oval form with draw-string closing, 22 cm x 12 cm. An Eastern bronze 'Costrel' type bell with ring suspension and fluted body, the mount with scrolling foliate decoration.12 x 10cm. A bamboo drinking vessel, the base set with cowrie shells and coral, 11cm high, 7cm wide.A distressed shuttle from a loom, 34cm. A long horn flask, pierced twice for suspension, stamped 'Mer De Glace' (a glacier north of Mt Blanc) 41 cm. A fragment of coconut shell inlaid with mother of pearl, with a paper label to the interior 'From Solomon Islands 1855'. Provenance: Previously at The Hall Bradford on Avon. *CR Many items in poor condition and showing signs of age. An extraordinary collection of items - presumably a collection belonging to a retired or reformed pirate.

Paolo Soleri (Italian/American, 1919-2013) for Arcosanti, United States. Large ribbed bronze wind bell with an uneven verdigris patina throughout.Soleri coined his architectural design studio and nonprofit foundation "Cosanti," from the blending of the Italian words "cosa" and "anti," meaning "against things." This was done as a critique of the culture of consumerism he witnessed taking hold in the world. In 1970, The Cosanti Foundation began construction of a prototype arcology city (a term coming from the blending of architecture and ecology). This city in the Arizona desert would be named Arcosanti. Built on sustainable architecture, the artisans of this city are famous for their wind chimes and bells.Height: 27 in x width: 10 in x depth: 7 3/4 in.Condition: Verdigris patination throughout. No major dents or repairs. Some oxidization visible. Lacking the lowest wind fin, visible in the lot listing.

A 19th century Minton Parian-ware porcelain group of Ariandne and the Panther modelled by John Bell (1811-1895) 29cm wide 16cm deep 37cm high.Possible restoration to feet and ribbons.Possible resorted crack to band around panthers neck where the crack is.Panthers right ear also with possible restoration and here there's a small loss to outer layer.Surface dirt in places and to include small dots on Ariandne's leg, a bit on her foot and tummy.Some scratches.UPDATETwo small chips to hair ribbons.Please see condition report tab for more pictures. Mid 19th Century Louis XV style French mantle clock in gilt and ormolu case depicting a young girl with a caged bird, set on a velvet pedestal standing on an ebonised wooden stand and protected within a glass dome. The white enamel dial with Roman numerals. The mechanism, by J Marti et Cie of Paris, with Bronze Medaille d'Honour, being a two-train, 8-day clock striking the half hour and hour on a steel bell, stamped with registration number 368 on backplate and on pendulum. Winding Key present. Overall Height including dome 47cm, width 44cm.
