John Paxton (1756-1832) is recorded as working in St Neots in Huntingdonshire from 1784 until his death in 1832. Provenance: The Property of the Rt. Hon. Sir Mathew Thorpe.

A George III mahogany bracket clock by Eardley Norton, the twin fusee eight day movement striking on a bell, with four turned pillars, the backplate inscribed 'Eardley Norton, London', the part silvered and brass dial signed and with two subsidiary dials, one for strike/silent, with date aperture, the chapter ring engraved with Roman and Arabic numerals, with pierced spandrels, the bell top case with turned finials, with brass side carrying handles above glazed panels, with fluted quarter pilasters and on brass bracket feet, 47.7cm high, 31.7cm wide, 20.5cm deep. Eardley Norton is listed as working at 49 St. John's Street, Clerkenwell between 1762 and 1794. He was a member of the Clockmakers Company and there are examples of his work in the Royal Collection. He is famous for his musical and astronomical clocks especially for the export market.
