There is no packing to the upstands suggesting original dial to movement. Case has minor cracking to trunk door crossbanding and a stain to lower right corner. Vertical crack through base panel, scuffs to bracket feet. Sold with two weights plus pendulum, key and winder. An Earthenware Soup Plate By J. & M.P. Bell & Co. Ltd Glasgow In 'KAPAL BASAR' Design, circa 1890's. Marked to underside, Kapal Basar rn. 192115. Finished in red and green colour way. The centre depicts a ship with a square centre sail and oars. In the sky above is a dragon with a double body. The border pattern consists of oriental floral and lattice motif. During the second half of the 19th century Bells developed a range of designs specially geared to the Eastern market. One of the design innovations used by them was the two-coloured printed pattern, where the central motif and border were of different colours, as in this example. Large chip to under glaze under rim, dia 10 inches.
