CHARLES NAPIER HEMY (BRITISH 1841-1917) WHEN STORMS ARE O'ER! Oil on canvas Monogramed and dated '1864' (lower right), further signed, dated and inscribed (to canvas verso) 43.5 x 69.5cm (17 x 27¼ in.)This early work by the artist, painted when he was 23, is one of a small group of Pre-Raphaelite maritime landscapes that were inspired by his teacher William Bell Scott. It is the same date as `Among the Shingle at Clovelly' (Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle), which is regarded as his masterpiece in this style, and shows a similar intensity of feeling and delicacy of technique.

A large Victorian music box with a 12 air movement, with 'bells in sight' and butterfly strikers, and with change/repeat and start/stop levers. With a reproduction song sheet and in a walnut and faux rosewood case, stamped with a serial number 6995. Cylinder 23.5cms long, case 56cms by 34cms, 29.5cms high. *CR In good working order with a nice tone, teeth and tips all present, stop/play lever slips back a little when moved so may need a little attention. Case, top is a little warped, general wear/scuffs/scratches over the years. Three of the bells seem fine when playing, the centre bell and one to the right of it (they move together) don’t seem to be moving, maybe need freeing up perhaps. Two limited edition Steiff Teddy Bears, including 'Teddybar 1951 Blond 50', No 3035 of 4000 made, with a growler mechanism and with a white label and certificate (50cms high), and 'Bell Boy Bear', No 1288 of 2000 made, with a growler mechanism and with a white label (40cms high, no certificate). (2). *CR Good condition.
A porcelain model of a seated Pug dog with bell collar, incised number '199' and with feint Crossed Swords mark (10.5cms high). Also with a pair of small Meissen Pugs scratching their ears, and with a bell collars. With feint Crossed Swords marks to the bases (6cms high). (3). *CR Larger Pug, spots of paint loss around the mouth, small indentation to the back of one leg (probably from manufacture). Pair, couple of the bells possibly re touched with gilding, higher ear possible retouching/restoration to edge of ear, ribbon - back has been restored and now has no gilding. The other seems generally fine, one ear possibly retouched around the edge.
Including a pair of yellow glazed porcelain models of standing Pug dogs (13cms high) and another similar, also with a blue glazed model of a Pug (13cms high) and seated pink Pug (10.5cms high). Most unmarked, the pink Pug has some incised numbers. (5). *CR Pink, ribbon on collar restored and also one bell, black mark/small hole to one leg. Blue, chip to ribbon, some paint loss underneath Yellow Pugs, two seem fine, one with leg broken and nibble to foot.
A mixed group of six various porcelain Pug Dogs, the largest standing pug without a collar (15.5cms high), the next largest with a bell collar and with impressed makers mark to the base (9cms high). A small Pug possibly by Meissen (feint mark possibly Meissen Crossed Swords (6.5cms high), and three other various models (8cms, 7cms, and 6cms high). (6). *CR Largest, various cracks to the body and head, restoration to ear and foot which has yellowed over time, small nibbles in places Next Largest, two legs and one foot have been broken and repaired, chip to foot. Possibly Meissen Pug, front leg I think has been restored. 8cms Pug, bell restored, crack to the body 7cms Pug, collar - paint worn 6cms Pug, leg broken and repaired.
Six similar glasses, probably 18thc with bell shaped bowls and air twist spiral stems. Four glasses 16cms high, two 15.5cms high. (6). *CR One with two small nibbles to the rim One with a small chip to the rim One with a small chip to the footrim The others seem generally fine with some air bubbles in places to the bowls and wear to the bases over time.
