Campanology - a set of eighteen vintage hand bells, the leather handles stamped for J. Shaw, Son & Co, Bradford and further stamped with its musical keynote, tallest 24 cm. CONDITION REPORT: All of the bells are in similar condition. We can see no evidence of any cracks to any of them. They are all a little tarnished and generally dirty. They all have minor surface marks and scuffs but none are misshapen and there are no substantial chips to the bell rims. All of the leather bell handles and mounts are serviceable. But all have signs of wear to the handle areas just above the brass rivets that go through the tops of the bells. This is evidenced by surface horizontal stress marks through the polished surface of the leather. All handles appear serviceable. The worst affected is bell E, where the leather is fairly close to breaking. The largest bell is G. they run in sequence from G through A, B, C, D, E, F, Fsharp, G, A, A sharp, B, C, D , E, F sharp, F, G.

All keys depress and spring back into position as they should, the drawer opens and the bell rings. The price markers rise and fall as they should. The wooden plinth base is in good condition all round with only minor scuffs and the odd nibble to the timber. The brasswork appears to be all in good order with no losses. The piano front lifts to show the digit counters which also appear to advance with each depress of the keys. The only minor problem with the piece is that the top rectangular section of glass has one edge chip and numerous small edge nibbles as one would expect. The rear glass panel also has a small top edge chip and minor edge nibbles. The front glass panel appears to be in good order. We have four till keys of various skeleton types. The other minor issue is that the cylindrical lock barrel to the piano front has a partial loss. The lock however is present. The key does operate and the lock also.
