French Eight-Day Gilt Brass and Champleve Mantel Clock Late 19th Century French mantel clock, 8 day Japy Freres stamped movement striking on a single bell, brocot suspension, backplate stamped 'R&C London & Paris' (Richard & Cie). Ormolu and champleve enamelled dial with black roman numerals, gilt brass case with multicoloured champleve decoration, four pillars and three cherub figures, standing on four adjustable ormolu disk feet. With pendulum and key.42cm highOrmolu cherub figures in good order and finials complete. Champleve enamel work in good condition, some scuffs, scratches and small dents to the gilt brass body. Some surface dirt and loss of gilt finish on the dial. The clock ticks but stops after around 15 minutes, it also strikes on the half hour and hour, we cannot guarantee it keeps time accurately. Striking hammer has been re-soldered and is loosely attached and sometimes rotates when striking the bell. Please view all images.
