Ca. 1800-1900 AD. A gilt-bronze Vajrasattva is seated in padmasana on a lotus base, the figure holds a vajra in his right hand and a ghanta in his left. The vajra, a ritual object in Vajrayana Buddhism, represents the indestructible nature of reality, while the ghanta, a bell-like instrument, represents wisdom. The figure wears a pleated dhoti, a fine necklace curled over the arms, and many body ornaments. The face of the Vajrasattva is particularly noteworthy, with a serene expression, an urna, and smiling lips. Elongated earlobes with circular earrings draw attention to his divine nature, while a five-leaf crown adorns his head. The hairdress is buttoned in a chignon, adding to the overall elegance of the piece. Vajrasattva is a Bodhisattva in Vajrayana Buddhism, representing the purity of the mind. Ca. 300-200 BC or later. A miniature and delicate vessel made of two parts: a hollow container and a bell-shaped lid, decorated with horizontally oriented bands. These vessels were possibly used for storing cosmetics or ointments. Lapis lazuli is a semi-precious stone with an intense and radiant blue color that was highly sought after in antiquity and still holds a special place in our modern world. 1966 Suzuki 79cc K11T WorksRegistration no. GOF 540DFrame no. 188565Engine no. 183216• Rare Trail version of K11 sports• Believed to be used by Olga Kevelos in the 1966 ISDT• Purchased from Arthur LampkinFrom the outset, Michio Suzuki's company was involved in the manufacture of looms. Needing to diversify after World War Two, Suzuki manufactured a number of other goods before turning his attention to powered cycles. The first complete machine was launched in 1954, but it was not until 1961 that Suzuki opened an office in London, and 1963 before they began officially to import motorcycles to the UK, when they came to a distribution agreement with AMC; Suzuki Great Britain Ltd. was formed, and part of the James factory was utilised for the purpose.No strangers to the 'race on Sunday, sell on Monday' principle, Suzuki had already won TT trophies in 1961 and 1962 with lightweights before importing machines, and once underway they looked to other forms of competition to promote their wares. Thus it was, that they were able to recruit the redoubtable and glamorous Olga Kevelos to ride their machine in 1966 in the ISDT in Sweden – an ultimate test of a motorcycle. Olga was something of a coup for Suzuki, as she guaranteed column inches, being a glamorous female in a predominantly male-dominated sport, and she was no slouch in motorcycling terms, having competed in the ISDT most years since 1948. In 1949 she won a gold medal on her factory-supported Norton 500T. Provided with a K11T by Suzuki, Olga unfortunately fell prey to sickness at the end of the first day, and was unable to start the second day of competition.The green RF60 log book on file documents the ownership of GOF 540D, with the first registered owner being 'Suzuki (Gt. Britain) Ltd.', and the entry was signed by Alan Kimber, who was initially Sales Manager, and then a Director of the company. After Suzuki, ownership moved northwards to Fred Watson of Silsden, Keighley in 1967, then to Anthony Bell, before coming into the ownership of Arthur Lampkin. Many years later, in 2008, Arthur sold the Suzuki to Derek Rumble (of sidecar fame), advising him that he believed this bike to be the one that Olga Kevelos used in the 1966 ISDT. However, this is undocumented, and accordingly, prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the history, provenance, and origins of this machine prior to bidding. Arthur Lampkin rode for the British team in the 1966 ISDT.Derek purchased the Suzuki as a restoration project, and set about the work, completing the task over a period of two years to his usual high standard. There is a handwritten list on file of parts purchased and used. Documentation comprises an old-type V5C, the green RF60 log book mentioned above, purchase receipt, and the list of parts used. Featured in the 1981 movie Chariots of Fire1923 Rudge 500cc Four-Speed Motorcycle CombinationRegistration no. PW 1216Frame no. 824804Engine no. 26969•Rudge sidecar•Present ownership since 2005•Restoration completed by 2006•Last used in September 2022This handsome Rudge combination was featured in Hugh Hudson's multiple Academy Award-winning 1981 movie Chariots of Fire (see image), and in 1985 won the 'Best Rudge' award at the VMCC International Assembly while owned by one G (George) Robinson (copy of results available). A letter on file from Bryan Reynolds of the Rudge Enthusiasts Club advises that this machine was assembled at the factory on 17th April 1923 and had gearbox number '218' (which it retains). The tank colour was described as Apple Green, which is a lighter shade than the famous Multi model's Olive Green.The current vendor purchased the Rudge in 2005 from a John Bell in Darlington. Mr Bell had acquired the Rudge from the aforementioned George Robinson, who owned a motorcycle shop in Darlington and had purchased the machine from Leicester. Prior to that, it is believed the Rudge was based in Norfolk (it has a Norwich registration). Purchased by our vendor as a 'basket case', the Rudge had been restored by the end of 2006. The vendor re-soldered the fuel tank himself, while the tank lining and 'Rudge' name were hand painted by a professional signwriter friend. Notable features include a Rudge single-seat sidecar with black leather upholstery (chassis number '3.1725'); Stewart speedometer; Klaxon 'Type ES' horn; Lucas 'King of the Road' acetylene headlamp and generator; Lucas sidecar lamp; BTH Magneto; and a Senspray carburettor. (It should also be noted that the engine runs on Castrol-R oil.) 'PW 1216' was ridden to Darlington town centre for the Vintage vehicle show in July 2022 and was last used in September 2022 at the Beamish Museum (the vendor visits the Northern Steam weekend at the Beamish Museum twice a year on the Rudge). The accompanying history file contains photographs of George Robinson and wife on the Rudge; with the current vendor at the Beamish Museum's Northern Steam weekend; and as seen in Chariots of Fire. She is holding a temple bell in her left hand, the right hand is empty. She has a wrathful appearance with her tongue sticking out, two fangs exposed, large, bulging eyes, bushy eyebrows and a raised urna on the forehead. Nine snake heads form a hood above her head. She is backed by an aureole. This might be a representation of Manasa, the Goddess of Snakes.

The Buddha is standing, dresed in a flowy robe covering both shoulders. The Buddha is forming the abhaya mudra and is holding the temple bell with the other hand. His eyes are downcast, the earlobes elongated, a raised urna on the forehead and the hair done up in a bun. The aureole has the shape of a pin with flames and a stupa on the top. Her head is tilted to her right shoulder, her eyes are downcast and her lips smiling peacefully. She is wearing a tiara and her chignon is decorated with the Buddha Amithaba effigy.

His focus: exciting reports from around the world That made it possible for him to travel to the most remote corners of the world, and to bring back and collect art and other objects from these places. His wife Madeleine regularly accompanied him. For more than 50 years, the couple pursued their shared passion and went exploring together – on a journey through many cultures. The collectionThe collection developed completely situationally. It was influenced by the couple’s great fascination for life in other cultures. This is how the collection came to include everyday objects, furniture, weapons, masks, musical instruments, and jewelry, as well as representations of revered figures, minerals, and many other interesting items.Madeleine and Erich Dammann visited countries more as observant “guests” than as tourists, living in the respective cultures and becoming a part of them.Together with their three children, Madeleine and Erich lived with and in their collection, which influenced the family’s home visually and atmospherically.
