Copied paperwork is included.Robert Henry Edwin Jordan was born 23/6/1893 in Devonport, England. Enlisted British Army 2/7/1909, serving at Fort Efford with the 107th Company R.G.A., seeing WW1 service with 3rd Brigade & ‘B’ Battery, 94th (Howitzer) Brigade (B.E.F). Discharged ‘Wounds’ and awarded S.W.B. (no longer physically fit for service) 24/8/1917 whilst serving with 5C Reserve Brigade. R.F.A. 1939 Census lists him as ‘incapacitated’. Died 1959, aged 66 in Plymouth, England.Awarded D.C.M. ‘For conspicuous gallantry. He displayed great coolness and energy in repairing telephone wires under fire and invariably volunteered for any work, however dangerous’. (L.G. 11/3/1916). N.B. Howard Johnson cites this gazette as the ‘Gallipoli’ awards gazette.

Medals court mounted for display and comes with a Walking Club 7 Mile award to J. Spittle dated 25/1/1913. Related paper research is included, including original purchase paperwork showing these were bought in 2013 for 668 GBP/$1044 AUDJoseph Michaelis Walter Spittle was born in Ealing, London 22/3/1896 and enlisted for service 27/8/1914. Served France 1/6/1915 with 9/Royal Fusiliers. Silver War Badge ‘wounds’ issued 27/4/1918 while serving 10/R.F. Discharged ‘No longer Physically Fit’ 18/4/1918. Shown as died in Hampshire in 1966. He is mentioned in The National Roll of the Great War, where it is stated he took part in the battles of Festubert, Loos, Arras, Beaumont-Hamel and on the Somme. He was Mentioned in Dispatches and won the Military Medal for distinguished Gallantry in the Field and was twice wounded. M.M. (L.G. 21/10/1916) - most likely a July-August 1916 First Battle of the Somme award.

Served 3 years Militia, B Coy, 79th Battery before enlisting 18/11/1915, 15th Reinforcements, 27th Bn. Served France, wounded 12/4/1917 & 28/3/1918. Repeated offences in service & at home, including receiving 56 days Field Punishment No.2 as a result of General Court Martial 13/5/1918. A lover of professional ladies, as can be seen by his charge sheet and medical history. Recommended for Military Medal 19/6/1918, confirmed 11/7/1918. His citation stating:‘During the whole of the operations south of Morlancourt near Albert on the night 10-11/6/18 this man especially distinguished himself by running from the Bn O.P. to Bn H.Q. very often under extremely heavy shell fire to deliver the reports from the observers. He showed an utter disregard for personal safety’. Signed Major General Rosenthal, Commander 2nd Australian Division.Returned to Australia 18/12/1918. Medically discharged 28/3/1919 – ‘Accident playing football’. Died ‘illness’ Keswick Military Hospital, Adelaide 8/2/1921. Buried Wester Terrace A.I.F. Cemetery Adelaide, Row 5, Grave 10.

Discharged 30/4/1913 in Colchester, having served 22 years & 84 days, with his overall conducted graded as ‘exemplary’. He was further employed as a ‘Pensioner Messenger’ At the War Office.

LEWIS. & St. John Service Medal, chisel engraved 4314. COMM. FOR WALES SIR HERBERT D. W. LEWIS K.B.E. PRIORY FOR WALES 1922. Medals mounted as worn. Sir Herbert David William Lewis was born on 25 February 1872, the eldest son of the Reverend David Lewis, Rector of Briton Ferry, and was educated at Rossall School. He served with the British Red Cross and Order of St. John of Jerusalem throughout the Great War from August 1914 as Commissioner for Wales, and represented the Order of St John in France at the Allied Forces Hospital in Boulogne; in addition, he organised St John Hospitals throughout Wales; raised 1,000 men for military hospitals; and formed several Voluntary Aid Detachment units. Appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his War service (London Gazette 7 January 1918), he was promoted to Knight Commander in November 1922, and was additionally created a Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John. He died on 23 January 1931.

Served as a lorry driver overseas 29/9/1914 – 27/1/1915 & 19/2/1916 – 16/5/1918. Discharged 3/5/1919. Died Watford 1950.

W. MINTER, A.B., R.N. War Medal & Victory Medal, impressed named J.14969 W. W. MINTER. L.S. R.N. Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 2nd issue, fixed suspension, impressed named J14969 W. W. MINTER. P.O. H.M.S. ENTERPRISE. B.W.M. shows surface scratches to face from star. Medals court mounted for display & come with full service summary & research paperwork. Rare to find WW1 submariner medal groups.  Walter William Minter was born in Greenwich on 28 May 1895 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 11 November 1911. He was advanced Ordinary Seaman on 28 May 1913, and Able Seaman on 25 April 1914. Qualifying as a Seaman Torpedoman, and later as a Leading Torpedo Operator, he served during the Great War in H.M. Submarine B11 (of Commander Norman Douglas Holbrook V.C. fame) from 1 January to 29 October 1916. On 17 January 1916, the submarine managed to capture the crew of an Austrian flying boat after the aircraft had suffered engine failure while returning from a bombing raid. On 17 March, it was narrowly missed by a torpedo but was unable to locate the attacker. He later served H.M. Submarine E41 from 1 October 1918 to 2 February 1919. He was advanced to Leading Seaman on 1 July 1917, and Petty Officer on 1 September 1920. He served in H.M.S. Enterprise from 7 April 1926 to 31 January 1929, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 30 August 1928. He was invalided out of the service on 18 November 1931 with ‘chronic supp. otitis media bilateral’, which probably led to a degree of permanent deafness. He attempted to re-join the Royal Navy for service in the Second World War, and despite at least four applications between the outbreak of War and 1943 he was not accepted, presumably due to his deafness.

His M.I.C. shows only 1915 Star awarded. Private J. Youll served with the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry from 25/8/1916, transferring to the Military Foot Police about July 1917, with service until Armistice Day 1918.

Enlisted 14/9/1914, served with 2nd Battery, 1st Field Artillery Brigade. Noted as ‘Wounded’ 13/8/1915. Returned to Australia 7/11/1915. Died 10/11/1937 Woolhara, N.S.W.

Court mounted, with B&W photo of Ferrie in R.F.C. ‘maternity’ jacket, with research paperwork. Robert Ferrie was born 1897. Enlisted into the Territorial Forces 31/3/1914, serving R.A.M.C. in France from 28/6/1915. Transferred to R.F.C. 14/11/1917. Served 49th Squadron (DH9’s Bombers) R.F.C., listed as NCO Observer. To R.A.F. Reserve 26/4/1919.

A WW1 British Army ‘aerial casualty’ medal group to Private Hallam, who died in an RE8 plane crash, whilst serving as a Royal Flying Corps observer 21/8/1917. 1914-15 Star, impressed named PLY. 174. S. PTE. C. HALLAM. R.M.L.I.; British War and Victory Medal, impressed named 174 PTE. C. HALLAM. R.M.L.I, with additional Victory Medal impressed named 77450 2AM. C. HALLAM. R.F.C. Medals court mounted for display, with basic research paperwork. Christopher Hallam was born New Whittington, Chesterfield, Derby 28/7/1889, before the war he was a working as an engineer, enlisting Private King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, in Dewsbury 7/9/14 & transferred to Plymouth Short-Service Royal Marine Light Infantry 16/9/14. He served at Gallipoli in the Plymouth Battalion, as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force 7/2/1915 to 15/10/1915, including the raiding parties on the Turkish guns at Kum Kale with subsequent landing at ‘Y’ Beach in support of the Anzac landings on the 25th April. He was invalided home in October due to illness. Drafted into 2nd Royal Marine Battalion at Base Depot 26/9/1916 to 3/1/1917 to Royal Flying Corps HQ, France 5/1/1917. Transferred to R.F.C. 3/3/1917 & posted to 46 Squadron (Recon).On the 21/8/1917, whilst serving with the 15th Wing, 21st Squadron (Artillery Recon), he was killed in action Observer in an RE8 No. A3622 (Pilot: Captain Allan Higson Smith); Photography & Artillery Observation at Ypres; Machine left Aerodrome at 9.05am. An RE8 was seen to go down in a spinning nose dive at 9.30am & crash at D.19.D. Beck House, Sheet 28. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial (MR 20). The German pilot who shot down Hallam’s aircraft was Lieutenant Ernst Hess of Jast 28, being his 11th of 17 kills during the war.

Discharged due to disability 26/7/1919. Died Northamptonshire in 1971.

HOPKINS. 3 BN. A.I.F. Medals court mounted for display. Carlyle Charles Hopkins was born 10/4/1890 in Sydney, N.S.W. Enlisted for service 7/9/1915 and allotted the 13th reinforcements of the 3rd Battalion. Served 2nd Bn France & reported A.W.O.L. 17/2/1918 – 20/2/1918. Field General Court Martialled 8/3/1918, being found guilty, sentenced to 14 days Field Punishment. Reported ‘gassed severe’ 25/8/1918. Returned to Australia 7/2/1919.

The 1939-45 Star missing suspension ring, with B&W photo. All medals came from the from family who claim these were applied for by the family at different periods, hence some of the irregular styles. Cecil Harold Knott was born 1898 Brentwood, Victoria. He was a Farmer in Dumbleyung, W.A., enlisting 30/10/1916. Allotted 24th Reinforcements, 16th Bn. Subsequently served 27th & 50th Bn. Died of disease (trench nephritis) 20/8/1918. Buried Bailleul Communual Cemetery, France.Herbert George Knott was born 1889, being a Blacksmith from Dumbleyung, W.A. Enlisted 19/10/1916, allotted 18th Reinforcements, 27th Bn. Listed as having defective eyesight on his records. France 13/6/1917 with 50th Bn. Medical board ruled his eyesight defective 24/5/1918. Returned to Australia. 19/10/1918. Medals were issued in 1924 but were returned (record states).Cecil George Knott, born 13/1/1924 in Fremantle, W.A. Enlisted R.A.A.F. 29/8/1942, discharging 10/6/19146.

British War and Victory Medal, impressed named 372 PTE F. M CLEMENT. 21 M.G. BN. A.I.F.; War Medal 1939-45, impressed named VF516157 B. F. CLEMENT. Medals come with a silver ring, 5 service/association badges & ribbon bar. Fergus Clement enlisted for service 22/7/1916, served with 15th & 21st Machine Gun Companies. France 17/2/1917. Prisoner of War (Germany) 15/4/1917, being captured at Lagnicourt. Repatriated to England 9/12/18. Returned to Australia 5/3/1919, being discharged 25/3/1919. Died 12/7/1954. The day of his capture 2 sections of the 15th M.G.C. were detailed to move forward of the line in support of the 8th Australian Infantry Brigade in the Bapaume area. Both sections were attacked early that morning by the Germans, which would have been when Private Clement was captured. 3,850 Australians were captured by the Germans on the Western Front between 1916 and 1918, making P.O.W. groups fairly scarce to the market.Betty Clement enlisted for service, serving with the Australian Army Medical Women’s Service 1/7/1944, discharging 3/7/1946. This last most likely being her only issue medal due to short service.

M.B.E., type 2, 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 & Australian Service Medal 1939-45, the first un-named as awarded, the remainder correctly impressed DX862 L. J. JONES, all medals court mounted for display, with corresponding miniatures.Major Leith Jones was born in Camberwell, Victoria 8/4/1917. Served C.M.F. from 1936, regimental numbers 712, 345187, DP21, DX862 & VP3992. Served 19th Bn, with H.Q. Darwin from August 1941 into 1942, most likely seeing service during Japanese Bombing of Darwin. Awarded M.B.E. in 1954 as a Staff Officer. Discharged 8/4/1964 while serving with H.Q. 6th Infantry Brigade.

Mizar From Major L.W. Greville A.I.F. 13.11.45. Lorne Warwick Greville was born in Boulder, W.A. 11/1/1904. He enlisted into the A.I.F. 9/11/1942. Served Army catering Corps, discharging 16/6/1944.

WW2 Australian Army ‘accidental death’ medal group to Gunner William Lonergan, who died as a result of a motorcycle accident in New Guinea. 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal 1939-45 & Australian Service Medal 1939-45, impressed named NX102190 W. G. LONERGAN. Group court mounted for display. Also includes his brother’s War Medal 1939-45, impressed named 166964 B. M. LONERGAN. This last most likely being his only issue medal due to short service. Copy of full service record is included for William Lonergan. William George Lonergan was born near Tumut, N.S.W. 21/10/1917, having served with the 36th Bn A.M.F. & 62nd A.A.S.L., enlisting into the regular army 14/7/1942. He saw service with the 73rd Anti-Aircraft Search Light Company R.A.E., when on the 6/9/1943, whilst serving in New Guinea, he fractured his skull, having fallen from a motor cycle. The court of enquiry stated the accident was due to wet conditions on the road. He was evacuated to 2/9 Australian General Hospital, where he died on the 7/9/1943. He was subsequently buried at the Bomana War Cemetery, Port Moresby.Bernard Michael Lonergan enlisted for service with the R.A.A.F. 2/1/1945, being discharged 6/9/1945.

WW2 British Army medal group of 6 to Gunner Holton, who was wounded in both North Africa & Italy whilst serving with the 71st Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. 1939-45 Star, Africa Star with 1st Army bar, Italy Star, Defence & War Medals & GVI Territorial Efficiency Medal. First 5 privately named 2023784 GNR. T. HOLTON 71ST FIELD REGT R.A., the last correctly impressed named. Gunner Holton served with the 71st Field Regiment in North Africa, being listed as wounded 17/9/1943 & Italy, also listed as wounded in 1944 (D.N.R.). The 71st (Forth) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery was an air defence unit of Britain's Territorial Army formed in Scotland just before World War II. It served in North Africa and Italy in predominantly anti-aircraft roles, however were used in a number of counter battery/ground support roles at the Salerno & Anzio operations.

WW2 British Army ‘casualty’ medal group of 4 to Rifleman T Evans, who was killed in Tunis, during Operation Pugilist 31/3/1943 whilst serving with Rifle Brigade. 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Defence & War Medals, with condolence letter, medal entitlement slip & medal car box, named to Mrs. N Evans, which has recipient s regimental number to side.

Group includes 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 & 1902-56 Africa General Service Medal impressed named to CAPT. J. G. LAING. KENYA REGT. Medals court mounted for display with basic research paperwork. John Gordon Laing enlisted in the British Army 11/1/1937 and served with the Royal West Surry Regiment. Most likely he served with the 2nd Battalion, as they were the only Battalion within the regiment to have served in both North Africa & Burma. The 2nd Bn were transferred to Burma and made up part of the 16th Brigade, 6th Infantry Division which was later redesignated as the 70th Infantry Division and were involved in Operation Thursday, the second Chindits campaign which aimed to transport troops behind enemy lines by air to create fortified bases with airstrips for operational use. Transferred to the Reserve 26/5/1946. He was commissioned from the ranks as a Second Lieutenant in the Kenya Regiment on 5 February 1953. The Kenya Regiment was heavily involved in the suppression of the Mau Mau uprising.

All medals but last impressed named NX53912 C.C.HOGAN. Court mounted for display. Comes with ‘mostly unsung’ service summary.Charters Carlyle Hogan was born on March 4, 1909 in Cottesloe, Western Australia. He was a resident of Edgecliff, New South Wales Australian Imperial Force Paddington, New South Wales 9/7/1940 aged 31. Posted Australian Army Medical Corps. Transferred to No. 6 Australian General Hospital 13/11/1940. Middle East 26/12/1940. Operations in Greece in April 1941 and returned to Alexandria, Egypt 16/5/1941 being posted to 2/8th Field Ambulance on 15/8/1942, for operations in El Alamein. Milne Bay and operations in New Guinea 26/7/1943. After seven months in New Guinea, "fractured metatarsal" bone in his foot 23/7/1945. Discharged 12/12/1945 having served 1,983 days (808 days of Active Service in Australia, in addition to 1,005 days of Active Service Overseas).
