MARCONI GUGLIELMO: (1874-1937) Italian Inventor, developed a radio telegraph system. Nobel Prize winner for Physics, 1909. T.L.S., G Marconi, one page, 4to, Marconi House, Strand, London, 16th April 1915, to Sir Henry Trueman Wood, Secretary of the Royal Society of Arts. Marconi states that he has his correspondent's letter 'in regard to the list of names of some of the suggested candidates for the Albert Medal for future years' and explains that he had not realised from previous communications that the list should have been returned, adding '…as my search for it has proved fruitless, it is very probable that it has been destroyed, in which case, of course, its privacy will remain intact, while in the event of my coming across it, I shall send it to you without fail'. With an oval Royal Society of Arts received stamp at the head. VG Henry Trueman Wood (1845-1929) British Secretary and Vice-President of the Royal Society of Arts. Marconi had been awarded the Royal Society's Albert Medal in 1914, the year before the present letter, for 'his services in the development and practical application of wireless telegraphy'. The next recipient, in 1915, was the English Physicist J. J. Thomson.
