A rare Staffordshire parian bust of Captain Matthew Webb, circa 1875, depicting the moustached swimmer wearing three medals to his tunic, on waisted socle, inscribed to the reverse "Published as the Act directs by J S CRAPPER of HANLEY and C MARSH of WOLSTANTON by special consent and assistance of CAPTAIN MATTHEW WEBB December 6th 1875", 40cm high (damage to one medal)Captain Matthew Webb was the first man to swim the English Channel from Dover to Calais on 24th and 25th August 1875 in twenty-one hours and forty-five minutes, covering a total distance of fifty miles.
Wurttemberg Model 1910 Officers Tunic, a beautiful tunic constructed in issue quality cloth for officer wear of a Wurttemberg Hauptmann. Described and photographed on pages 32, 33, 34 and 35 of Feldzug 15. All nap to cloth excellent, no visible moth damage, standard configuration for a model 1910 officers tunic fitted with Wurttemberg officers slip-on shoulder boards with black and red intertwined colours within the subdued silver lace. The medal ribbons fitted are the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Wurttemberg Friedrich Order. Stuttgart beautifully woven tailor’s label laid into the inner lining. An interesting feature is fitted to the shoulder boards the zinc plated steel stylised letter ‘S’ denoting that the wearer was still serving after receiving wounds. Bandage pocket fitted to the inner lining with three inner pockets and the two inner rear skirt hidden pockets. Loops to the front right breast for two awards plus three loops to the upper right breast for a medal ribbon bar. A superb item.
