BWM to 5159B Robert William Russell SMN RNR. Born Poole. Killed In Action on HMS Carmania (armed merchant Cruise Ship) 14th September 1914. HMS Carmania (ex Cunard) was involved in the famous WW1 Naval Battle that took place off Trinidad. The battle took place between two Cruise Liners that had been converted to Armoured Merchant Cruisers. The German ship was the Cap Trafalgar of the Hamburg South American Line. The Camania received 79 hits with several crew members loosing their lives, the action was commemorated by the British Navy League who presented her with a silver plate from Nelsons dinner service. Dutch Medal for Humane Action 1912 (bronze) named to A. Palmer, in original case. Plus a family Birth Certificate. At Aldeburgh on 17th Jan 1912 the Dutch Schooner `Voorwarts` went ashore during a heavy gale. The Southwold Lifeboat `Alfred Corry` was launched and managed to rescued four hands and a women. Seventeen Dutch Awards were issued for the rescue, all to the crew of the Lifeboat, no RNLI awards were made. Comes with research. EF

Medals - QSA with bars CC/OFS/Trans, KSA with bars SA01 & SA02, City of London Police 1897 Jubilee Medal, and City of London Police 1911 Coronation Medal. Lot includes a few original documents including 3x Army Forms and 1x City of London Police Certificate, plus further copied research. Few small edge nicks, VF (4)

Lot includes Queens Sudan Medal, 1911 Coronation Medal (silver), EDVII Army LSGC Medal, and Khedives Sudan Medal (silver) with Khartoum clasp. Born Taunton, Somerset. There were two William Smiths in Sir Henry Hardings Company, numbered in the Medal Roll as 1 and 2. Has been lacquered , toned. GVF

Grenadier Guards Medal 1855, obv with regimental cypher of Victoria, ‘Grenadier Guards’, rev. inscription, ‘From Maj. Gen. Bentinck to (blank) in Recognition of the Recipient’s Distinguished Conduct during the Campaign in the Crimea 1854-5’, 35mm., silver, with ribbon and suspender. The medals were prepared for the three Guards regiments and awarded to non-commissioned officers and other ranks for distinguished conduct in the Crimea campaign. They were awarded by Major-General Sir Henry Bentinck K.C.B who commanded the Guards Brigade. In the event medals were only issued to the Grenadier Guards and 3rd Foot Guards, being awarded 13 and 5 (plus one to the 90th Foot) named medals respectively. The Coldstream Guards refused theirs ! Died 9/6/1919, buried Quetta Govt Cemetery. Commemorated on the Delhi Memorial. Lot also includes small 1917 Diary, various drawings, photos. Morrison served as 2 Lieut RFC att Kite Balloon Service No 13 & 17 Coys, Transferred to No 9 Sqdn RFC as Observer. Sept 1917 Indian Army Att 124th Inf, Sept 1918 posted 1/22 Punjabis, Severely Wounded at the Action at Spin Baldak, NWF Frontier. Died of Wounds Quetta Hospital. Medals mounted in a Spink Case. Lots of research.

Navy List info - Lt 1/3/1942, Lt Cmdr 1/3/1950, Cmdr 31/12/1954. MID Gazetted 14th Sept 1943 for the famous Sinking of U-559 where the Enigma Code Books were recovered from, whilst serving on HMS Dulverton. Lot comes with research. (7) VF

Italy a scarce Officers multiple bravery group with some original certificates an Al Valore Militare in silver named correctly Stuart Frederico 36 Marzo 1936 XIV Passo Mecun, two War Merit Crosses and an Ethiopian Campaign medal, probably entitled to many more medals, Capitano Stuart, Federigo di Roberto Montepulciano Siena was still serving as a Commando Militaire Territoriale Officer in Roma during 1956. 4x certificates, folded, but all named to him, very interesting.
