In the afternoon of the same day one of his Sections was giving supporting fire on the Pt 305 feature, and shortly after opening fire its guns came under direct fire from an enemy 75 mm gun, but encouraged by this V.C.O’s presence and coolness under fire the Section maintained its fire according to the programme. The platoon thus neutralised the enemy’s small arms fire and enabled the operation to be carried out successfully with few casualties. For a further month until its withdrawal in November, Subedar Karam Singh commanded his Platoon with great courage under constant enemy shellfire. He was at all times an inspiration and example to his men and was responsible for the many successful shoots carried out by his Platoon against the enemy.” Subedar Karam Singh came from the village of Mehndwani in the district of Hoshiarpur and enlisted in March 1930.
