They located and marked targets with flares, which a main bomber force could aim at, increasing the accuracy of their bombing. 105 Squadron flew mosquitos from RAF Upwood in Cambridgeshire.

Orlando Norie, (1832 - 1901). An unframed card-mounted Watercolour very ably portraying a military scene; probably in the Crimea, with a bearded officer believed to be of the Zouaves Regiment of the French Foreign Legion wearing a Legion D'Honneur medal and with his sword drawn hiding behind a ruined stone wall gesticulating "hold back" to three of his force in the shadows carrying muskets with bayonets fixed as a large group of soldiers march by beyond the wall. Signed to the base of the wall. 12 1/8" x 8 7/8" approx. Some marks/stains.
