SCOTTISH AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY MEDALLIONS:- A "Central Deeside Agricultural Association" medal for the "Best Display of Corn", 1901, an "Ayrshire Agricultural Association" medal inscribed on the reverse, hallmarked Chester 1958 (cased), four various small "Highland and Agricultural Scoiety of Scotland" medals (all inscribed for ploughing), mixed dates, 1875-1906, two other slightly larger examples, a "Renfrewshire Agricultural Society" medal, inscribed (cased), another similar (also cased) and three late Victorian bronze "Inverness Farmer Society" medallions, inscribed, mixed dates 1895-1906; the latter three 1.75" (4.6 cms) diameter; 7 oz weighable silver (13)
Delepine-Canchy, an ormolu mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with the backplate stamped with the trademark for Delepine, the name Pons within a roundel and dated 1827 (see note below) along with the serial number 783, and retailer's name Deniere à Paris, the round white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals and blued steel spade hands, the decorative ormolu case with ormolu floral and c-scroll mounts with a silvered figure of a cherub sat to the front holding a wine goblet and bunch of grapes, height 35 cms.* Biography Delepine-Canchy of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont took over the movement making business of Honore Pons in circa 1846 before becoming Delepine-Barrois, supplying movements to amongst others Henri Jacot. They continued to use the Pons trademark stamp which shows the award in 1827 of a gold medal. They were themselves taken over by their near neighbours in the town, Couaillet frères, in circa 1913, headed by Armand Couaillet.
Medals.- Shakespeare (William).- A collection of 43 medallic portraits of William Shakespeare, including the Dassier medal of c.1750 and the Jubilee Medal of 1769, in a variety of metals (including gold, silver, bronze, copper and white metal), all generally in good condition, v.s., v.p., 1750-1976. ⁂ An excellent collection, which shows the changing iconography of Shakespeare in medallic form over some 250 years. It includes medals by Dassier, Allen and Moore, J.J. Barre, Young and Taylor, Esser, Johannes Henker, F. Bowcher, Knobloch, Westwood and Steward, J Ottley, Wyon, T.W. Ingram, T.A. Vaughton, F. Fraser, S. Walko, Albert Holl, H. Brown, C.H. Kuchler, P. Vincze, K. Renner, N. Costantini, and G. Dowler.
