He volunteered for service in German South West Africa before reenlisting into the 1st South African Regiment. He landed in France on the 16th April 1916. At Arras he suffered Trench Foot and was discharged February 1918.

Private Alfred Gosling of Winchester first saw action at Gallipoli with the 2nd Bn and later won the Military Medal for service in France. He was reported wounded on the 12th June 1918.

Indian Medical Service Comprising: an attractive table top glazed frame by Spink of London mounted with the uniform medal ribbons CB., CIE., 1914/15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, MID Oak Leaf, 1911 Coronation Medal. These complimented with Major General rank insignia, tunic buttons etc. Accompanied by a number of original photographs including a portrait photograph in General Officer Medical Service uniform. (see lot 97 belt and 470 his sword; 179 plume etc)his Major General John Blackburne Smith CB., CIE. was born in 1865 in Ireland and after qualifying as a Doctor joined the Army and in 1889 was serving as a Surgeon Lieutenant at the Royal Victoria Hospital Netley. He received promotion and at the outbreak of the Great War held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Wartime service would see him in Egypt and in 1915/16 at the Bombay Presidency General Hospital. Remaining in India he was appointed a CB 1918 and CIE in 1922. Promoted to the rank of Major General 1922 he held the post of President Medical Board India Office 1923 until his death on the 2nd November 1928

The group remains as originally worn last medal detached from ribbon. OBE LG 3rd February 1920 (Murmansk), MC LG 1st January 1917, MID x 2 LG 3rd February 1920 (Murmansk) Order of Stanislaus Confirmed.Major George Croxton Walker OBE, MC, TD was born in Bedford and served in the ranks of the Volunteer Engineers before being commissioned into the 1st Bedford VE in 1907. At the outbreak of the Great War he was serving as a Captain with the 1st East Anglian Field Company officially landing in France on Christmas Day 1914. Promoted Major he served with the 1st Bridging Company RE and in 1919 volunteered for service in North Russia. Returning to his home town of Bedford he was appointed a partner in the family business as an auctioneer and died in 1936.

WW2 Royal Ulster Rifles French Croix De Guerre Confirmed Gallantry Group of Medals. Awarded to 7012385 Lance Corporal James Ince who saw pre war service in Palestine and was awarded the French Croix De Guerre with star for gallantry as a stretcher bearer Decemeber 1944. Comprising: General Service Medal, clasp Palestine 7012385 RFMN J. INCE R.U. RIFLES, 1939/45 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, MID Oakleaf, French Croix De Guerre with Star. Group mounted as originally worn. 7012385 Lance Corporal James Ince service in Palestine is confirmed at that time serving with the 2nd Bn. He was Mentioned in Despatches for North West Europe (LG 10th May 1945) French Croix De Guerre with Star, the citation states as a Stretcher Bearer between the 13th and 14th December he was serving with B Coy of the 2nd Bn and under a very heavy constant bombardment in the open was responsible for tending and evacuating some 30 casualties. A copy of the citation accompanies the lot.

Superintendent Clark Ernest James Hart a draughtsman by trade, enlisted in 1881. He served in South Africa from 1896 to 1902 and later in Egypt 1906 to 1907, discharged in 1907. Clasp entitlement is confirmed.

Awarded to Stanley J Fearn, who served with the RGA, before being discharged with shell shock and then served with the Mercantile Marine.Comprising: British War Medal 467 GNR S. FEARN RA, Mercantile Marine Medal STANLEY. J. FEARN, Victory Medal GNR RA. Stanley J Fearn volunteered for the Lancashire Heavy Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery on the 15th April 1915. He embarked for France after the 1st January 1916 and was discharged with the award of the Silver War Badge on the 4th October 1916, suffering from Shell Shock. He then volunteered to serve with the Mercantile Marine Reserve as an Assistant Steward.

Some small overall moth holes. Good clean condition. Fitted with two WWI bronze medals attached on the left breast by triangularly-folded ribbons. The senior medal, with red/grey striped ribbon, bearing the head of the Emperor Karl I on the obverse, the reverse inscribed LAESO MILITI and dated MCMXVIII; the junior medal, on a red and white striped ribbon, in the form of a Maltese cross, the obverse bearing the Royal and Imperial crowns side by side above the initial C, and inscribed VITAM ET SANGVINEM MDCCCCXVI, the reverse GRATI PRINCEPS ET PATRIA - CAROLUS IMP ET REX.

Also fitted with ADC to Elizabeth II shoulder strap badges and gold bullion aiguillettes. Mess Uniform, of jacket, waistcoat and overall trousers. The jacket tailored with ADC EIIR gilt badges.RAF Tropical tunic, this retaining rank of Group Captain.USAF Flight Surgeon Certificate dated 21st April 1986.Overall good clean condition. (7 parts) Air Marshal Sir John Donald KBE, Cdr St.John, MB received a short service commission in the RAF in 1953 attached to the RAF Regiment. During his career he held various posts including: Senior RAF Medical Officer NATO., OC RAF Hospital Akrotiri 1974 during the Turkish invasion and was awarded the OBE. Principal Medical Officer HQ Strike Command. Air Commodore 1978, Air Vice Marshal 1981, Air Marshal 1984. He died in 2014.

Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir William Forster Dickson, GCB, KBE, DSO, AFC, RAF Uniform & Cap. The tunic was tailored by Gieves in April 1952 and follows the regulation for service dress. To the left breast King's crown padded Pilot wings and four rows of medal ribbons, with loops to the pocket for the wearing of orders. To each cuff, correct period individual rank lace representing the rank of Marshal of the Royal Air Force. To the shoulder straps, gilt crowned EIIR cyphers and complete with King's crown RAF brass buttons. The interior pocket with tailor's label and typed name "Sir W Dickson". Good clean condition ... Accompanied by a post WW2 King's Crown Air Officer Cap tailored by Gieves & Hawkes. Clean Condition (2 items) MRAF Sir William Forster Dickson, GCB, KBE, DSO, AFC remarkable career spanned the pioneering days of the Royal Naval Air Service of 1916 to been Chief of the Air Staff in the mid-1950s, in which role his main preoccupation was the establishment of the V Force, Britain Nuclar deterant. He was award the DSO in September 1918. On the 1st June 1954 he was promoted to the highest RAF rank that of Marshal of the Royal Air Force. He died in the RAF Hospital at Wroughton in 1987
