HENRY LE JEUNE, A.R.A. (1819-1904) ST GEORGE artist's monogram l.r. oil and gold leaf on gold ground 30.0 x 9.5cm / 11 3/4 x 3 3/4in Inscribed as a halo around the Saint is Sanctus Georgius Fidelis ad Mortem (Saint George, faithful unto death), and to the lower right Scuto Amoris Divini (Beneath the Shield of Divine Love). St George is depicted here in a typically Victorian manner, with the flag of St George and the Royal Arms of England. Henry Le Jeune was trained at the Royal Academy Schools, where he won a number of silver medals and a gold medal for his depiction of Samson Breaking his Bonds. He continued to paint Biblical scenes, and later in life also became an accomplished painter of genre scenes. He taught at the Government School of Design at Somerset House, became a drawing instructor at the Royal Academy in 1845 and three years later a curator at the Academy.

M. Keiller' within laurel wreath, 32mm; British Motorcycle Racing Club silver medal, female figure holding laurels and thunderbolt before Union Shield, rev. engraved 'B.M.C.R.C Second Prize 3. Lap Cyclecar Handicap C. M Keiller Brooklands 28 March 1914', 30mm. Good very fine (3) Clifton Macnee Keiller (1888-1968) of GWK cars. In February 1908 he began a three year pupilage in the engineer's office at GWR's Swindon Works. J. Talfourd Wood, the W in GWK, was a pupil at Swindon at the same time. 1911 he was living at Springfield, 19 Brackley Road, Beckenham, Kent. The prototype GWK car was built in a stable in Beckenham. In 1921 he married, at Wandsworth, to Doris M. Lorden.

Pair of medals: Indian Mutiny Medal 1857-58 to Lt. J. T. Watson, 7th Oudh Irreg Inf, Defence of Lucknow bar; Afghanistan Medal 1878-80 to Col. J. T. Watson, 13th Ben N. I., in a fitted leather covered case (2) The flashpoint of the Indian Mutiny was the introduction of the Enfield rifle. The cartridges for this weapon were believed to be greased with a mixture of beef and pork fat, which was felt would defile both Hindu and Muslim soldiers. On 1st May, the 7th Oudh Irregular Infantry refused to bite the cartridge, and on 3rd May were disarmed by other regiments. In 1861 after the mutiny the title of 13th BNI was given to the Shekhawati Battalion which became 13th (Shekhawati) Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry. Col. Watson was appointed commander of the 13th Regiment on 13th September 1878.

A set of ten hand-blocked rolls 'Myriam', Paris: Leleu Dehays , circa 1950s, ten matching rolls of wallpaper, hand-blocked with floral paisley pattern in pink, green, orange, and yellow, on a brown ground, lettered 'Myriam exclusivite editee par Leleu Dehays Paris' to edge, some minor edge-fraying at start of rolls, 11cm tear at beginning of one roll, width 56 cm (22 ins), diameter approximately 6cm (2.5 ins), together with a few matching fragments (Qty: 10)NOTESFrench designer Jules Leleu (1883-1961) is best known for his award-winning furniture designs, which combined modernism with classical lines. He opened a gallery in Paris, 'Maison Leleu', in 1924, and exhibited at the 1925 'Exposition Industrielle et Arts Decoratifs', where he won a medal. He went on to design the Grand Salon of the Ambassadors at the Society of Nations in Geneva as well as other prominent decorative schemes, including those for various French Embassies, and two ocean liners, SS Ile de France and SS Normandie. Unused rolls of his striking wallpaper rarely come onto the market for obvious reasons.
