Plus the medal’s original card transit box, a newspaper clipping reporting on Alberts death in Morton, Derbyshire. Additionally there are 2 late Victorian era gilt and enamel medals with ribbons. One commemorates Victoria’s diamond jubilee in 1897, and the other would appear to be a Temperance Association medal, with an enamel royal coat of arms to the centre. Condition: very good to each. Gilt finish on medallions appears to be mostly intact, plus the enamels are also good.

Lot 3

An original mid 19th century Crimean War era miniature Royal Navy Baltic medal and ribbon. Suspended on original silk ribbon with unmarked silver pin clasp. Medal width approximately 1.7cm width. Condition: very good. Nice tone to the silver on both sides. The medals are mounted on a pin bar for wear. Notes: the medals are believed to relate to William George Hurt, who’s WW1 medal card lists him originally as a Private in the Artists Rifles, a 2nd Lt in the Middlesex Regiment, and West African Regiment. He his further noted as being a Lieutenant on the General List, and later a Captain. His M.I.C states that he is ‘ineligible for SWB’ which would indicate he suffered injury while on active service, but couldn’t claim the badge. It also notes that he applied for the 1915 star, but there is no evidence that this was granted. Condition: good. Some toning to the medals from age. Medal ribbons would appear to be original to the era.

Lot 21

Lot 299

A Korean War pair of medals awarded to 22412005 Pte A. Richardson Glosters, informally known as the ‘Glorius Glosters’ for their famous action at the Imjin River during the Korean War. To include: the Korea 1950-53 medal, officially named as above, plus the United Nations Korea Medal. Notes: according to information supplied by the Gloucestershire Regimental Museum, Pte Richardson does not appear on on rolls relating to soldiers who fought in the Battle of Imjin River, nor does he appear in the roll of POW’s compiled by Peter Gaston. This would suggest that he could of been part of a draft of reinforcements to replace men who were killed during the battle or those that were taken prisoner. Also included are a pair of cloth Gloucestershire shoulder titles, 2 white metal cap badges, one with loops and one with slider, 2 brass collar badges, and a spare United Nations Korea Medal medal ribbon, 2 First Field Dressing kits (one dated 1940 and one dated 1945). Plus 5 scarce Korean propaganda leaflets, likely air dropped over occupied areas, some period publications, NAAFI tokens and period banknotes. All of the paper ephemera was collected by Pte Richardson during his service in the Korean War. Please note: not all the paper ephemera and banknotes are shown in the images. Condition: generally good. Both medals, shoulder titles and badges are in good condition. The outside cover of the field dressings show heavy wear and tear. The paper items show varying degrees of wear - the propaganda leaflets have some creases and what appears to be water staining in places, understandable given they were likely picked up off the ground. Some of the locally printed army newsletters are brown and brittle with age. The banknotes all appear to have much wear and use.

Lot 42

A WW2 Royal Navy medal group, framed and glazed, attributed to G.C.Christopher C/KX 128210. Notes: a dealer label to the back of the frame indicates that the sailer was sunk twice during the conflict, with one of the ships he served on being HMS Partridge, a P Class Destroyer sunk by a torpedo from the German submarine U-565. His dog tag suggests that he was a stoker. Condition: the frame has not been opened to assess the condition of the reverse sides, but all would appear to be good from the front.

Lot 28

A selection of WW2 campaign medals, some of the period, and some later replacements / reissues. To include: a WW2 era set of medals including the 1939-45 war medal, 1939-45 star, France & Germany star, and the Defence Medal. To include: an impressive clock fashioned from the propeller of a wartime plane, fitted on to a stepped base. White dial with smaller subsidiary dial, and the RAF Pathfinder badge mounted to the front. No apparent makers marks or dates to the propeller boss. Plus, a WW1 medal pair, named to 376020 Pte W.E.Meredith of the 8th London Regiment, and a Duke & Duchess of Portland white metal medallion, a George VI Imperial Service Medal with case of issue, named to William Edward Meredith (and complete with award scroll). Also, a WW2 era back painted glass RAF photograph. Notes: the WW1 medal pair are Pte Meredith’s full entitlement. He joined the conflict late in the war, entering service on April 14th 1918, through to November 11th 1918. His official records state that he was attached to the Royal Engineers Postal Section. It seems likely that the Imperial Service Medal was earned by W.E.Meredith Senior, possibly on account of long service in the postal industry. Condition: the laminated wood to the clock has fractures in places, but nevertheless remains solid. The clock was wound while in situ here, and has been working, but this is by no means a guarantee. The WW1 pair have toning and contact wear, and the suspension ring on the Victory medal is out of round. The Imperial Service Medal remains in good condition, as does the case. The back painted photograph frame also remains in good condition.

To include: the Queen’s South Africa medal (without clasp), the 1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, and the Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. The ribbons would appear to be modern replacements, but also included are the worn but original silk ribbons. Notes: William R. Ellery is recorded on the QSA / KSA medal roll as serving on HMS Pearl. His rank at this time was noted as Able Seaman, and his service number was 183570. He retained the same service number during WW1, but his rank was now noted as Petty Officer. As the medals are in a sealed frame, its difficult to see the naming to the edge, but you can just make them out at when held at the correct angle. Condition: very good. The medals appear to have had limited wear from polishing, and it’s assumed that the non visible reverse sides are in an identical condition.

Lot 10

To include: the Queens South Africa medal with clasp for Natal, Kings South Africa medal with SA 1901 and 1902 clasps, the BMW, Victory medal, and the Meritorious Service medal. Notes: an unusual rank to be found. The QSA would appear to have been erased and renamed (the remaining medals are named in the correct style). His QSA medal clasp is confirmed, as is the KSA. His WW1 medal index card confirms his entitlement to the pair. The award of the Meritorious Service medal was gazetted on June 18th 1917, for devotion to duty in Salonica. Condition: generally good. The QSA is an original but renamed example as noted above, it also has an edge bruise at the 5 o’clock position. The MSM is the swivel suspender type, and the suspension remains tight.

Lot 70

A British No.7 MK1 bayonet and other military related items. To included: a 1948 dated No.7 bayonet, designed primarily for the Sten Gun. With paxolin grips and distinctive swivelling pommel. The blade is marked at the ricasso with ‘No7 MK1 L’ and to the other side it is faintly marked 1948 and what appears to be a letter P in a circle. This would likely related to the Poole factory, who produced around 30,000 of the 176,000 produced in total. The pommel is faintly marked ‘F5B’ and with a broad arrow mark, plus the other side is faintly marked ‘Made in UK’. Please note that the bayonet is minus its scabbard. Plus a Skean Dhu style sock knife, with citrine paste stone set into the pommel, and base metal mounts. A Irish clan badge style motif is inset into the grip, a cased Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal complete with its miniature medal and ribbon bar, a WW1 era ‘Bovril Handy-Book & Diary of the War’, 2 x Peter Hicks bronze resin military figurines, and 2 vintage Dinky armoured vehicle toys. 8 items. Both truncheons and the baton show light surface wear, as does the tunic buttons, and bottle opener. The long service medal appears to be unused, and is in excellent condition. The Mag-Lite has surface wear to the painted finish, and the cover to the battery compartment is seized in place (it’s unknown if replacement batteries would make the torch operational).
