HAWKINS, 6TH RESERVE CAVALRY REGIMENT comprising his service record (Army Form B.2067) stating that he was born in Reading in 1891, enlisted on 18th November 1915, and was discharged as physically unfit on 26th May 1917; with his 'Services Rendered' silver war Badge and accompanying paperwork; also seven County Borough of Reading driving licences, circa 1919-30; a silver 'A.R.P.' lapel badge; and a Defence Medal, unnamed as issued, unmounted, in postal despatch box addressed to the recipient in Reading.

Royal Navy Submarine Service Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. A George V Admiral bust example awarded to “J17723 J.S. EDDON PO HMS VERNON” Polished to highpoints. Petty Officer James Stevens Eddon joined the Royal Navy as a Boy in 1913. He served onboard various ships including HMS Queen Mary, HMS Glasgow, before volunteering for submarine service in 1918. He served onboard Submarines C17 before the end of the war. Remaining with the RN he served onboard H48, L2, L33. L5. He transferred to the reverse in 1929.

WW1 7th Bn North Staffordshire Regiment Distinguished Conduct Medal. Awarded to “13732 CPL. G THOMAS 7/N. STAFF R” The announcement of the award of the DCM appeared in the London Gazette on the 29th August 1917.“For conspicuous gallantry in action. He took command when all his Officers had become casualties and in fearless manner beat of an enemy counter attack, setting a very fine example.”Sergeant George Thomas volunteered and embarked with the 7th Bn landing in Gallipoli on the 31st August 1915. After being evacuated the regiment served served in Egypt and later part of the North Persia Force. Thomas was promoted Sergeant and later served with the Northumberland Fusiliers.
Royal Engineers Egypt Medal, Clasp “Suakin 1885”, “Tofrek”. Awarded to “14368 SAPR J MOIR R.E”. Fine condition with no contact marks. Sapper James Moir enlisted on the 26th July 1877, being a native of Montrose. He saw service on the Cape of Good Hope and landed in Egypt on the 23rd February 1885, returning home in September of that year. He was discharged on the 25th January 1889. The clasps to the Egypt medal are confirmed. He is also entitled to the Zulu South Africa Medal and the Khedive Star.
76th Regiment of Foot Officer’s Three Clasp Military General Service Medal. Awarded to Captain Benjamin Rooth who was one of the Officers that laid the gallant Sir John Moore in his grave in the ramparts of Corunna,. The medal representing the maxim number of clasps awarded to both Officers and men of the Regiment. Military General Service Medal “B. ROOTH ENSN & ADJT 76TH FOOT”. Bearing the three clasps “Corunma”, “Nive”, “Nivelle”. edge knocks. The three clasps are confirmed on the medal roll, only 73 awarded for Nivelle. Captain Benjamin Rooth purchased his Ensign on the 30th June 1809, he is confirmed as serving as the Regimental Adjutant and appears to have still being hold this position in 1828. He was promoted Lieutenant on the 10th May 1809 and Captain in February 1828. Within months of joining his regiment he found himself in the retreat from Corunna, following his death in 1849, the United Services Journal reported that he was one of the Officers who laid the gallant Sir John Moore in his grave in the ramparts of Corunna, Moore's funeral was commemorated in the poem "The Burial of Sir John Moore after Corunna" by Charles Wolfe. The 76th regiment was then posted to Ireland in 1810 where it was garrisoned for three years. In 1813 it returned to the Peninsula campaign, but the following year the Regiment was despatched to Canada and was deployed in the closing stages of the War of 1812. The Regiment would serve here for 12 years. In 1828 he was promoted to Captain and placed on the Half Pay list and in February of the following year, he was appointed Town Major at Montreal. He held this post until 1833. Settling in Canada he died 15th March 1849, near Fort Erie, Canada West Ontario, the United Service Journal also reported that his MGS arrived five days after his death.

CPL RIF BRIG”, British War Medal, Victory Medal, MID Oak Leaf, “C.SJT RIF BRIG”, Defence Medal. The group remains mounted as originally worn. The 11th Bn of the Rifle Brigade was raised at Winchester in September 1914. Colour Sergeant Charles E Mitchell embarked with the Battalion landing in France on the 21st July 1915.
2nd Bn Seaforth Highlanders India General Service Medal, Queen’s South Africa Pair of Medals. Awarded to “1342 PTE T. HORSFIELD 2: SEA: HIGHRS”. Comprising: India General Service Medal, two clasps “Hazara 1891”, “Hazara 1888”, “1342 PTE 2ND BN SEA HIGHS”, Queen’s South Africa Medal Bearing three clasp “Cape Colony”, “Transvaal”, “Wittebergen”. Reverse with ghost dates, “1342 PTE 2: SEA HIGHRS”. Medals loose. Private Thomas Horsfield a native of Manchester enlisted on the 12th July 1884, having served with the 4th Bn Manchester Regiment. He landed with the Battalion in India on the 31st March 1885 He is confirmed as being awarded both medals the QSA is also entitled to clasp “South Africa 1901”.
1st (Royal) Dragoons Waterloo Medal. Awarded to “SERJ. WILLIAM BROWN 1ST REG. DRAGOON GUARDS” Retaining steel clip and ring. Sergeant William Brown is confirmed on the Waterloo Medal Roll. Born at Silchester Hampshire He joined the Regiment in 1798 and served 20 years and six months. He was discharged on the 28th December 1818 due to being unfit for further service and was entered as a Chelsea Pensioner. He died in March 1830
