Thomas Kirk RHA (Irish, 1781-1845), white marble bust c.1842 of George Putland, inscribed on the truncation George Putland Esq 1842, and T.Kirk.RHA.FECIT., upon a circular Connemara marble column and plinth, height of bust including socle 65.5cm x width 50cm, total height of column including plinth 104cm x diameter 29cm; diameter of plinth 44cm, back of socle chipped and re-stuck, some other small chips, column and plinth chipped in places. Provenance: by descent through the Hall family of Dublin and Leopardstown (related to George Putland through marriage); this is being sold by John Hall VI; by family tradition, this bust reputedly won a gold medal at the Irish Georgian Society.
