A World War One DFC group of four to Squadron Leader Arthur Watts Williams with related photographs and ephemera:, DFC, 1914-15 Star and clasp, War Medal and Victory Medal, also a small collection of personal effects, sweetheart brooches, Identity disc, buttons, signet ring, cigarette case and photographs. * Biography Flt Cmmr A W Williams DFC. Born 12th may 1895 Educated at Repton Sept 1909 until Dec 1912. The son of the late J Williams Bryn Glas. Newport. Pte ASC August 1914, 2 Lt 4th Dragoon Gds Dec 1914. Flt Sub Lt RNAS (Airplanes Branch) Pilot. RAF 1st April 1918 Lt (Pilot Airplanes) September 1918 Flt Commander. Served France & Flanders 1914-1915. Again in 1918. Mudros 1917-1918. Awarded the DFC and MiD 021118 Capt Arthur Watts Williams. LG 4/11/1918. Captain Williams and 2/Lt A H Watters. 'Cptn Williams with 2/Lt Watters as his observer, took part in a night raid on a Railway junction. Getting well over the objective they descended to 500ft and released four bombs on a moving Train. They then, in face of heavy and accurate fire, flew up and down the Junction and railway track, at altitudes varying between 250-90ft, bombing the station and sidings with machine gun fire. Captain Williams has carried out fifteen night bomb raids with great success, proving himself an able and courageous pilot. In these raids he has been ably assisted by his observer 2/Lt Watters. This officer possesses qualities invaluable in an observer, quickness in detecting hostile movements as well as first rate marksmanship'.
