DCM L/G 18/2/1919 (Barnsbury) entitled to Silver War Badge for Wounds. 'For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership near Saunchy L'Estree, on 27th Sept 1918. In charge of a party of four men he captured as Officer and 29 other ranks with four machine guns. He then bombed a party of snipers who were causing casualties, shooting the remaining sniper himself from point blank range'. VF (3)

DCM L/G 30th Oct 1918 and CdG L/G 22/11/1918 (Langholm). 'For remarkable initiative and gallantry. When his only officer and all senior NCO's of his company became casualties early in the action, he took command, and by his personality rallied the men under heavy shell and machine gun fire. He then fought his way to the objective, where he consolidated, reorganising the company and carried on for eight hours until an officer took over command'. EF (4)
